Knox National Results SEGMENT #1

PRE-RACE

Wow; Most of the drivers met in the chatroom on the site before the race and then we hopped in the server about 11:10 am. By 11:15 there were 7 drivers already in it, and by 11:30, we had a whopping total of 13 VLR driver's coming and going in and out of the server before everything was said and done. This resulted in some quick planning for Shock and Matt if everyone was going to get to race. This meant that six drivers had to stay in one server, and seven in the other. With Shock, it was Shock, Snook, MOTT, Angus, Tink, and Ranch. With matt, it was, Matt, INDY, JTR, Killer, wg20, flash and razz. The turnout was amazing, and more than anyone expected, but it caused there to have to be 2 40 lap features, with two different winners due to warp possibilities and lack of room.

QUALIFYING in Shock's Server

Qualifying was great, everyone had fun. Here are the results:

NAME TIME DETAILS

1. VLR_Shock 13.59 Shock had the fastest qualifying time of the day with a 13.59; He was the only person in both servers to qualify in the .50's

3. VLR_Ranch_$$ 13.66 N/A

4. VLR_Snook 13.66 Ranch qualified second because he went before Snook in qualifying.

5. VLR_Angus 13.77 N/A

6. VLR_Tink 13.98 Tink had a messed up steering wheel calibration. He was given the option to redo to get a better time but refused and elected to start last in the heat race.

HEAT RACE

This was a VERY exciting heat race. Shock started on the pole and quickly jumped out to about a 1 or 2 car-length lead. Unfortunately, he scraped the wall just a bit in turn 4 on lap 2. Ranch and Mott were already battling hard for second as they both went side by side under Shock, leaving no clear leader. Shock finally hopped into third and the rest of the pack was already 1 1/2 seconds behind the three. Tink had an early accident as his woes continued and was knocked out of the heat early. Meanwhile, up front, Mott had managed to squeeze just ahead of Ranch on lap six. With all of the battling going on between them, it allowed Shock to close in and a three car battle insued. The action was very close coming down to the final laps. This was when Ranch decided to make a move inside of Mott. They battled side-by-side over the last two laps with Shock right there with them and they dipped 3-wide in the final turn and Shock let off to let them go to keep from hitting them. Ranch managed to win by a nose in an amazing heat race. After the race MOTT and Shock were first to congratulate him on that fine finish. Below are the heat race results:

The Big 40 Lapper!

After winning the heat race, Ranch snagged the first place starting position in the race. Right from the start it was a good race. Ranch was able to jump out to an early lead over MOTT, while Snook managed to get past Shock for third. The action was close up front between the top 4 drivers, Ranch, Mott, Snook and Shock when Shock managed to get back around Snook on about lap 5 to take over third. Meanwhile, Tink once again dropped out of the main race for reasons still unknown and he recieved a DNF. Back up front, Ranch began to pull away from Mott and Shock, but then Mott tapped the wall a little bit on lap 13. This allowed Shock to make the pass going in to turn four. Mott would not be denied right off though, as he battled back but could never fully catch Shock. With the battling, Ranch had stretched his lead to over 1 and a half seconds over second place. Shock began pulling away from third and fourth place, as a great battle was going on with Angus, Snook, and Mott. Shock knew that he had to run smooth and perfect the rest of the way in order to catch Ranch. He looked at the Split time continuously between first and second and noticed that it had shrunk to a mere half second. A couple of laps later, around lap 33 or so, Ranch snagged the wall just enough for Shock to get around for the lead. He quickly disappeared behind Shock as Shock rolled on in first. What he didn't expect was that Ranch's PC had crashed and when he got back around he saw Ranch sitting right in the groove on the track but it was too late to dodge him. Shock ran into the back of Ranch's Late model, temporarily slowing him down. This allowed VLR_Angus, who made a spectacular move to get up to second, to gain on him. It was all too late though, and Shock once again pulled away from the rest of the field in the closing laps to take his first VLR win ever by over 1 1/2 seconds. This race caused for an amazing 7 different winners in 7 races! Congratulations to all for the great turnout. Matt should post the results from his segment soon. I saw the first couple of laps and VLR_JTR showed up late so he started from the rear, while VLR_INDY sat on the pole. Last time I saw, INDY had already built a comfortable margin over second place.
