WICHITA, KS. (July 10, 2011) - The Heat Wave series rolled into KsT Raceway with a season high 20 late models signing in for round 5 of the 12 race series.

Heat 1 started off with Doit 45 and Squirrel on the front row. VLR_Rampage would go from last to first to win the heat followed by Doit 45 getting the final transfer. XCR 58, Doit 10, Squirrel, Drinkard and IFRT_67r rounded out the finish.

Heat 2 began with WFO Ice and XCR Ax up front. WFO Ice would go wire to wire and take home the checkers with his teammate WFO Rainman taking the last transfer. JFR*4, BLS_26, XCR Ax, JFR*Jim and BLS_42 will have to come from the semi features.

Heat 3 saw VLR_18 and XCR 22 on the point and just like the winner of the 2nd Heat, VLR_18 would go wire to wire. VLR_Shock nabbed the last transfer after starting fourth. VLR_McGee, joshow20, BLS_34 and XCR 22 will try their best to come from the consolation races.

The dash saw VLR_Rampage and WFO Ice take the green but many shuffling of positions landed WFO Rainman the win with VLR_Shock in second after both started on the last row. WFO Ice, VLR_18, Doit 45 and VLR_Rampage was the final order after making contact with WFO Rainman early on in the dash.

The C feature saw first time driver Drinkard start from the pole but wouldnt last long up there as he was overtaken quickly. BLS_34 took the lead and would stay there winning the C main. BLS_42, IFRT_67r and Squirrel were also able to transfer to the B main. Drinkard, JFR*Jim, XCR 22 and XCR Ax' nights would come to an end early.

The B feature saw XCR 58 go wire to wire taking the checkers. BLS_26, VLR_McGee and BLS_34 would get the final transfers to the feature. joshow20, IFRT_67r, Squirrel, Doit 10, JFR*4 and BLS_42 all came up short.

The starting lineup of the feature was well stacked with many of the top ranked drivers in dirt racing. WFO Rainman and VLR_Shock would lead them off into turn one to start the 40 lap feature. They dueled the first few laps before VLR_18, VLR_Rampage and BLS_26 got involved. The race got more intense as VLR_Shock takes the lead only to lose it to VLR_Rampage with WFO Rainman pushing him.

In the next corner Rain drives under Rampage trying to take the lead with VLR_18 behind them going underneath Shock for third. The top 5 were in a ball running side by side getting every inch they can at this multi-grooved facility. Shock moves infront of 18 then moves under Rampage trying to take second with Jammin getting in there using the high side to try and overtake 18 for fourth. Now WFO Ice was getting into the picture as he dives low underneath Jammin for fifth.

Shock drives in under Rain trying to take back the lead while the top six were side by side several rows deep. Shock eventually inherits the lead. The racing even more intensifies with four wide action for third. Rain moves back under Shock on lap 14 and retakes the lead with 18 pulling in right behind them. The battle for first goes on with Shock, Rain and 18 fighting hard for the lead putting a gap between them and fourth place.

Rain makes a costly move driving in deep in turn while running second on lap 17 making him hit a tire. His teammate Ice would clip Rain and send him sideways into turn 2. Ice would be sent all the way back to 9th with Rain's night ending sooner then expected. The field somewhat spread out during the last half of the race. Shock would stay infront of 18 to pick up his second win of the season in a close finish that had the fans on their feet from beginning to end.

VLR_18 would take home a second place finish, VLR_Rampage and BLS_26 who were making their season debuts would come home 3rd and 4th respectively. VLR_McGee would fend off XCR 58 as they finished side by side in 5th and 6th. WFO Ice made his way back up to 7th after the earlier incident. Doit 45 finished 8th with BLS_34, also making his season debut, finishing 9th. WFO Rain loaded up early with a battered car in 10th.

Here's what our top 3 had to say after the race:

VLR_Shock: "Our car was great all weekend from when we unloaded, but I expect that coming to this track. I love coming out here to Kansas to race here, it's a beautiful place to come race at," said an exhausted VLR_Shock at the end of the 40 lap feature. "The 105 degree heat was just ridiculous but all of us battled through it and I'm just glad I was the one on top at the end. I knew a good starting spot was key to get the victory here and we had a heck of a battle up there in the first few laps with all those guys. Once I finally got the lead I just tried to hit my marks. WFO_Rainman pulled one of the dumbest moves I've seen since I've been racing by driving backwards on the track halfway through the race. That was very dangerous and unsportsmanlike I thought. After that I was glad to be able to hold off 18 for the win and it's always nice to win here at XCR. This is one of my favorite tracks and series to run and everything is ran professionally. Want to thank "Superman" Jonathan Davenport for loaning me the car this week and all the fans for coming out and watching."

VLR_18: "First off i'd like to thank NOS Energy Drink for sponsoring us tonight. We had a solid car but just couldn't do anything with Shock up there, I tried the reel him in but when i'd get close to him he'd get a good run. All in all it was a good night."

VLR_Rampage: "Was a great A main for the Bayline Fire Protection Inc team, started 6th worked our way towards the front. Didn't have a winning car but had a top 5 car. WFO Rainman spinning didnt hurt my feelings and it definitely helped me. Overall it was a good first night back."

Shock retakes the point lead by just three over XCR 58. Next week the tour heads to KLMS 2k11 and it is also $1 beer night. Things should be rough and rowdy once again!
