Muskogee Ok – 18 drivers showed up at the famed 5/8 mile track in Muskogee Oklahoma with their Super stocks and Crates to battle it out for the $50,000 to win Zombie Dezigns, Okie 50 to start off the season at WFO.

In heat 1 Shock would start up front and never look back as the Tennessee Nightmare would pull away from the field and roll to the win, WFO Scrub would come home a distant 2nd to advance to the Snicker’s Dash.

Heat 2 would be a slugfest as VLR_18, WFO Rain, Doit 5, and Ice would have one of the classic heat races and battle 3 and sometimes 4 wide. The race was not decided until the final lap when Ice was able to push Doit 5 to the lead and hold VLR_18 and Rain off for the 2nd transfer spot.

Heat 3 would see some contact early between Doit 87 and Doit 42 and then some late race contact between WFO Jeff, Doit 87, Doit 15, and Doit 3 all battling for the lead. Doit 3 would get the short end of the stick and drop out of contention. WFO Jeff would find a way to pull off the win with Rac coming home 2nd. However after the race it was determined that Rac and Doit 42 would swap positions.

The “C” Main would roll out with 6 cars. Ranger and Rac would cross the line 1st and 2nd with JSN and Bullet getting the final 2 transfer spots to the “B” Main.

“B” Main time would see BLS 34 surprise a lot of people by holding off the Wisconsin Phenom (Wheel) for the win. Wheel would come home 2nd with Doit 15 and Rain getting the final 2 transfer spots.

The Snicker’s Dash would see 5 cars battle it out for 8 laps and a great race. Shock started on the pole but would never be able to pull out to a lead and would get freight trained. Jeff, Doit 5 and Ice would be fighting for the lead going into turn 3 where Doit 5 and Jeff would make contact allowing Ice to sneak through on the bottom and pick up the win with Doit 5 in 2nd, Jeff would get 3rd, Scrub 4th, Shock 5th and Doit 42 6th.

The “A” Main would have Muskogee’s own WFO Ice starting on the pole and looking to cash in on the $50k payday for winning the Zombie Dezigns Okie 50…Ice would get a good jump on the start but would immediately challenged as Doit 5 would find his way to the bottom of the track and you would see some of the best side by side action for the 1st 8 laps.

Meanwhile Shock was picking off cars one at a time and by lap 15 was in 2nd behind Ice. Lap 17 Shock would use the bottom to clear and take the point but Ice, Jeff, and Doit 5 were all right there doing battle for the lead.

Then something happened that no one ever expected…Ice would start to push his long time rival Shock and they would start to pull away. By lap 30 they would have about ¾ of a straight away advantage on Jeff and looked like they would continue to roll.

On lap 32 though Ice’s chances of winning would start to deteriorate as Shock was able to break the draft and slowly pull away. By lap 38 Shock would have a .4 second lead on Ice and Ice’s car would start to sputter allowing Jeff to catch and pass him.

Jeff and Ice would start to work together and try to reel in Shock but to no avail as the Tennessee Nightmare would take home $50,000 and finally get the monkey of the big draft tracks off his back.

Jeff would cap off his return with a strong 2nd place finish, Ice would limp home 3rd, Wheel would bring the #18 car home 4th and WFO Rain would round out the top 5. Doit 5 would fade to 6th, WFO Scrub 7th, Doit 15 8th and BLS 34 and Doit 42 would round out the field.

After the race we caught up with Shock and he was elated with joy after getting the $50k check and picking up his 1st win on the famed draft track. “Wow I never win these kinds of races, I got to the front and I was in “shock” that Ice was the one behind me pushing me out to a good lead over 3rd place. I don’t think we have ever worked together like that. Then I was able to break the draft and though about letting him get back to me but decided I’d take my chances and was able to pull away.”

Jeff would come congratulate Shock on the win “Shock was the best car tonight; I’m still shaking off some rust and was a little lucky that Ice had some mechanical problems and I could bring home 2nd.”

We caught up with Ice at his trailer and you could tell he was not real happy with the results. “I just felt like I let down my hometown crowd tonight, Shock had an awesome car and I knew he was really fast so when he got to the lead I decided my best chance was to get us both away and try to get around him at the end. Didn’t work out that way then I had some issues with the motor and come home 3rd.

Join us next week as WFO travels to the ¼ mile track known as Bloom 2k11 for some door banging short track racing.
