CALVERT CITY, KY. (July 17, 2011) - A record number of twenty-four cars rolled into Kentucky Lake for round 6 of the XCR Heat Wave series, which will mark the end of the first half of the season.
Heat 1 started off with JFR*Jim and XCR Ax taking the green but Ax would take the lead and grab the checkers. WFO Ice picked up the final transfer. VLR_Shock charged from sixth to third, with JFR*Jim, VLR_McGee, IFRT_14, JFR*97 and JFR*4 rounding out the field.
Heat 2 began with Drinkard and XCR 22 on the front row but wouldn't last long with Dirty10 charging to the lead and taking the win. BLS_42 moved from fifth to get the final transfer. WFO Rainman, VLR_18, ERL_Goat, ERL_Turbo, Drinkard and XCR 22 will have to come through the consolation races.
Heat 3 had ERL_Bulldog and Squirrel start on the front row. ERL_Bulldog would lead till the last lap when he wrecked on the front-straight giving the heat win to VLR_Superman, who started dead last (8th) in the heat to earn the win. XCR 58 passed the wrecked car of Bulldog to get the final transfer. ERL_Bulldog, IFRT_67r, BLS_33, XCR t91, Mason and Squirrel was the remaining order.
The track was showing extreme raciness on it's super wide surface which made for a lot of passing in the heat races with drivers swapping spots nearly every corner as the racing program moved on to the C and B main festivities when drivers would look to continue to charge through the field to make the A main.
The dash saw the biggest wreck of the night with an accident involving four of the six cars when tight racing caused a crash on the backstretch on lap 4. Doit 10 and BLS_42 made it through and would take 1st and 2nd. XCR 58, XCR Ax, VLR_Superman and WFO Ice was the finishing order.
The C Main started off with VLR_McGee and ERL_Goat on the front row. BLS_33 would pass Goat and McGee and win the C Feature. VLR_McGee, ERL_Goat, IFRT_14 and XCR t91 all transferred to the B Feature. Squirrel, ERL_Turbo and JFR*97 all packed it up early.
In the B Feature, VLR_Shock would go wire to wire and win. VLR_18, JFR*Jim and VLR_McGee would transfer to the feature race. BLS_33, ERL_Goat, IFRT_14, IFRT_67r, XCR t91 and ERL_Bulldog all loaded up. WFO Rainman had ignition issues and couldnt make it on the track.
The feature started with Doit 10 taking the green but immediately pressured by BLS_42. By lap 2, XCR points leader VLR_Shock had already moved into the 4th position after starting seventh. After everyone finally got in line Doit 10 had the lead with BLS_42 second and VLR_Superman in 3rd. The best race on the track was for fifth with VLR_McGee, WFO ICE and VLR_18 fighting for position.
VLR_18 would make his way around WFO Ice for 6th. VLR_Shock then began weaving down the backstretch like a drunk driver after getting loose under Superman, and he is caught by McGee, 18, and Ice. Shock, McGee, and 18 started moving as a 3 car draft team leaving Ice in 7th by himself. VLR_18 made a move and passed VLR_McGee to crack the top five for the first time in the race after starting in the back.
McGee would try to get that spot back but to no avail. Wheel would then set his sights on teammate VLR_Shock as the race neared it's end. Up front Doit 10 moved out to a comfortable lead but was approaching the lap traffic of XCR Ax.
Doit 10 would manage hold the lead and get his first career XCR Gen 3 Series win. BLS_42 would take home second and VLR_Superman finished third after closing the gap on BLS_42 at the end. On the last lap VLR_18 used his muscle to pass Shock for fourth which then blew a tire on Shock's car and sent him careening into the outside wall on the straightaway, just a few yards from the finish.
VLR_McGee brought home a top 5 run in fifth, WFO Ice ended up 6th, JFR*Jim and XCR 58 would run side by side through most of the race and would finish 7th and 8th respectively. VLR_Shock who crashed on the final lap would finish 9th and XCR Ax motor expired after taking the white flag and didn't make it back around.
After the race VLR_Shock had to be rushed to the local hospital for evaluation after suffering a head on collision with the turn 4 wall on the final lap.

We also caught up with VLR_Shock in the hospital after his incident with VLR_18 on the last lap that resulted in a ninth place finish for him and he had this to say. "urgh jibbafoom eiepoepww bottle oompa loompa iggy foopa powbammabooma."
Shock maintains his point lead but only by 2 now over XCR 58 as we complete our first half of the season. Next week the tour heads to WFO Thunderbird 2k11 for what is sure to be another great show.
