As I hope that everyone is aware, a ping of over 125 is generally considered high and not suitable for competition.
XCR has a long standing ping rule of 125. This rule applies to all events hosted in XCR servers regardless of the sanctioning body. It is important that you understand this rule is not meant to punish people, but rather to preserve the quality of the game and competition. We have some of the best if not the best server available for sim racing. However the quality of the races are only as good as the worst connection to the server.
I would encourage series directors to enforce the ping rule when possible. To help combat this problem a new service will be in use on the XCR servers during major scheduled events. This service uses a proprietary algorithm that will boot people from the servers if they far exceed the ping limit for a sustained period of time while the server is in race status. The details of the algorithm are still being refined and I won’t explain them in great detail as people will try to exploit them.
However to simplify what this means.....
If your ping is much higher than the 125 ping rule for a sustained period of time you will be booted from the servers and unable to connect for the duration of the event.
You will not be booted for a 126 ping. While this is over the ping rule of 125 there is a safety margin to ensure stable pings are not kicked.
If you are not in race status in the server it will not boot you. This is to avoid it from picking up spikes when people switch between the game and desktop between races, ect.
This will be monitored closely to ensure it is working properly and that people with good connections are not prohibited from participating. The plan is that if you are kicked and not allowed to race the list will clear after the event is over and before the next event. However if you are getting kicked every event I will leave you on the list until you can demonstrate that your equipment is fixed.
It is important to remember that each competitor and only that competitor are responsible for the quality of their connection. I know sometimes it is frustrating as well have all had ping problems at one point or another. However many folks in the DTR2 community are willing to help you pinpoint the issue and recommend ways to resolve it as long as you are willing to help yourself(ie don’t steal your neighbors wifi).
Below are screenshots from tonight SDC race of pings that either got kicked or where very close to being kicked. These are only examples and results may vary. Thank you for your understanding.
