Hey! Just letting ya know, I'm back into DTR2, after taking a long vacation with NASCAR Heat and rF, I'm finally returning to my roots for now. And I've got some good childhood DTR2 stories to share with you:
Sometime between 2005-07, my younger sister and I were racing DTR2 over the network. She happened to have been outside playing with the water in a bikini earlier, or something, and across the chat she said, "Racing, swimsuits, this must be Nopy!" She meant Nopi Tunervision, which was an old show that followed the Nopi import drag racing league, as well as their swimsuit contests. I obsessed over this show when I was a kid, pretty much for the girls, and my sister poked fun at it.
In 2004, I made my first track, Randle County Speedway. It was just a retexture of NJDR, and I wasn't aware of Rhino back then, so I put random numbers in the track and it ended up with a bump on the back straightaway, lol!
Around that same time, I created a character called Anonymouslizardman. I raced in NSDRA under this name for a brief while. He was a cuddly, green lizardman who was really intelligent, has the heart of a child, and races dirt late models, as well as owning his own building, Lizard Lair, which was a skyscraper with hotel rooms, a mall, an arcade, a sim racing center, several restaurants, several hobby shops, its own dirt track, and an indoor dome stadium, which also had a dirt track around the edges. He also lived in the building. He was later called Slimyscaly, since his name was too long (like I said, I feel sorry for the people who raced against me; my name probably took up the entire width of the track!)
Also, I used to make stories in my head about Liz (my nickname for AnonymousLizardman) and his friends he raced against, and made their cars in DTR2. There was Salsador Caliente, a chubby Latino green Dragon, Tyler Rex, a Budweiser-Sponsored T-Rex (no relation to the WWE wrestler Tyler Reks), Lizzie, who is his bootylicious girlfriend, SnakeSnake, an old golden snake with arms and legs who lived since the beginning of time and seen the evolution of dirt late models, and raced in all eras, and has a junkyard with his many race cars over the years, Thunderbird, a female bird who is part Native American, Throppo, a Wolf guy, Foxie Ferr, a fox woman, and Thaiger, a Tiger from Thailand who is a relative to Sagat (the Street Fighter character).
Ever since late 2003, when I first found out about dirt late model racing (by pretty much the only way a Black guy can find out about it: the internet, lol), I made dirt late models, street stocks, modifieds, super stocks, and sprint cars out of clay. I wish I could show you the evoloution of my modeling clay skills. That's also when I realized that the backyard of our house in Bloomington had red clay, the same kind used at Bloomington Speedway, and I started making little replica tracks out of it, and I even made the start/finish line out of baking soda!
I also made several video game characters driving Xtreme Late Models in DTR2 back then. Larry Koopa (from Mario) with the #7 I stole off of a Matt Miller skin, Bowser, and several others.
I also liked career mode, and I wanted to jump right into a late model, so I made my own late model Monacan skin, using no template, just a default skin, so it turned out pretty crappy, and made the price $1. This was before I figured out the chimchim code.
I've come a long way in DTR2 during the past nine years. Just as far as EDITING. Now, in racing, I still suck, but I mainly like to race offline against the AI and online in browser and against my group home buddies.
I actually got a little better. I smoked some amateurs in browser a couple of months ago, winning most of the races, and one of them was actually a REAL DIRT LATE MODEL DRIVER!! Needless to say, DTR2 is quite arcadey, and that guy probably didn't know the game's setups, then he'd be beast!
So I'm back, and I might make some more mods, tracks, and Starfox references
! But I don't think I'll be racing in VLR anytime soon, reason being, #1 I'm not experienced enough as far as racing online, and need to race in browser some more against some better guys as well as watching their replays, and #2 right now my home's router will be shut off at 9:30 Central on Sundays, which, come to think of it, the VLR races usually end around that time, so, welp.
I'm back! Hope to hear from you guys!
