I bring this up because I was looking through pics from a local tracks car show and noticed a very familiar white #28 but noticed it had jr on it. It turns out the 28jr Late Model is Sammy Mars, Jimmy Mars' 10 year old son.

I'm not talking the Bobby Pierces' of the world (starting at like 16) but 10 just seems WAY too young to start driving a late model no matter who your dad is or how long you've already raced (Sammy's been racing an Winged Warrior go-kart for like 5 years).

I Don' mind racing young folks, I ran against a 13 year old that had 7+ years Kart Experience and was every bit as mature behind the wheel as anyone I have raced in a Streeter..... However I wouldn't say cuttin em loose under 16 in any aftermarket chassis full size machine is very wise but some have $ to burn( the rest of the field could need $ to burn for repairs)

I remember I knew a few kid/teen dirt race drivers in Middle/High School. Like Josh Burton, of course, and then Brad Sterrett (Mods and Sprints), Winston Wood (CRA Asphalt Street Stocks, Sprints, Asphalt LMs), Korey Guess (Road Course Go Karts), Tyler Flynn (Dirt Mini Sprints), and several who raced Dirt Go Karts. But geez, driving a 800-900 HP, $30-80,000, 100-170 MPH Dirt Super Late Model is quite a handful for a 10-year-old! ;)

They are. And it's funny because they start out in late models immediately.

We have a 12 year old named Michael Lake racing crates in PA last year when he was only 11. His father owns the team, so that's how he's in one already. He won a race last year, and also raced a super late down in Florida this February.

It is certainly up for debate whether they are too young. There was just a 15 year old girl killed down at Bubba Raceway Park a few weeks ago in a 4 cylinder car. It really matters on what experience they have and if their parents think they are ready, then they should be allowed to race.

I think that 10 years old is a bit too young for a Super Late Model, however. That is ridiculous

Yeah, if this was a crate I could see it but Wissota doesn't have a small engine Late Model class...we had Limited Lates for like 1 year but it fell off.

Its safer for kids to drive late models than it is to drive a junky 4 banger. At least a late model is purpose built for safety. Ive seen some of the 4 bangers i wouldnt drive from here to the beer store in.
Better eat them fuckin vitamins kiddies.

Lol, but there is a Black (not mixed, Black) Super Stock driver at Bloomington Speedway. Justin Jeffries, who was a rookie last year and is in my NASCAR Heat mod. Might put him in DTR2.

dangg me too i want to put together a 4 banger and i am 15. MY OPINION is that once you are 16, you are ready to race, leave 15 and under for the go carts.

I just saw an 11 year old win a feature at Talladega short track. Youngest feature winner there in a DLM.
Straight roads are for fast cars, curvy roads are for fast drivers.
