BARBERVILLE, FL (April 27, 2017) - This Sunday night the VLR Pro Dirt Late Model Tour is back in action at the Volusia Speedway Park for 50 laps of exciting racing action.
The first ever official VLR race took place at the Eldora Speedway last Sunday and was dominated by third starting Austen Semmelmann, who picked up right where he left off from Dirt Track Racing 2. The Wisconsin driver powered to the front after a big first lap crash ended several drivers chances before they got started.
Here is what we expect from some other racers that showed up last week as we head into our second iRace ever.
Trevor Denton: Knoxville, Tennessee's Trevor Denton had a great showing in the first ever VLR iRacing event, and brought home a strong second place finish after starting fifth. The finish was a surprise to some, but Denton showed the ability to run up front in DTR2 as well in limited action, and his iRacing Dirt Track Racing career is off to an even better start as he looks to continue to move up.
Eric Hough: Hough certainly had an up and down race at Eldora, but it ended about how he would have hoped, a top three finish. Not bad after having to go to the rear of the field after a first lap pileup. This is a sneaky underrated driver who may well be in Victory Lane after the dust settles at Volusia Sunday.
Howard Weaver: The Tennessee driver has shown extreme speed since the beginning of his iRacing dirt track racing career - see the fact that he picked up the pole at Eldora last week for example, as well as in many hosted and official races. However, putting it all together for the feature has been an issue so far, and he was involved in a huge lap 1 pileup at Eldora Sunday that ended his chances for a win right off the bat. Look for Weaver to rebound Sunday night and try to finish what he started.
Josh Weems: Weems is another driver that has shown speed, but hasn't had the consistency needed to win yet. The Mississippi Missile drove second much of the race at Eldora, but faded at the end to come home fifth.
Josh Atwood: Frankfort, Ohio driver Josh Atwood has gotten off to an impressive start on iRacing Dirt. After struggling in qualifying at Eldora (he started 10th), Atwood was able to methodically work his way through the field and ended up with a respectable sixth place finish. However, he knows there is room for improvement and will look to find the speed at Volusia.
Chaz Buchinsky: It was an up and down day for the driver of the 18 machine on Sunday at Eldora, as he started 9th and ended up 7th, but was in a couple of accidents that possibly hurt his chances at picking up a better finish. Look for Buchinsky to take a leap forward Sunday and contend for a top three at Volusia.
Tommy Rowe Jr: Rowe's race was virtually over from the start when the lap one crash caused him to tumble on his side. The crew made quick repairs and he drove strong until a lap car made contact and turned him again at the end of the race. He will be much more of a factor this Sunday.
We hope to see everyone back out Sunday as the iRacing Dirt Late Model tour Presented by TeamVLR.com rolls on to Volusia!
