Brunswick, GA (June 7, 2015) A comfortable 70 degree night awaited the 20 racers that pulled into Golden Isles Speedway for the Brunswick Tourism 60, the first of the last four races of the VLR Spring Thaw Series. Last seasons Golden Isles winner, LP, didn't make the trip. Who could blame him with dangerous people like The Missing Link and The Twin Towers (Big Bossman & Akeem) waiting for him after sleeping with their wives during VLR's last visit here.

Qualifying began a little after 8:30 PM local time. The top three drivers in qualifying will lead the front row of the first three heats for those unaware at home. These people were VLR_Shock, ICE_KG, and V49. Two VLR members and a wannabe VLR member on the top three of the time sheet, as VLR_Shock picked up his first pole of the season and seemed poised to get his first win of the year as well. It is also worth noting that VLR_0 and KG had identical best laps of the four lap session, but 0 had the better TRT (total race time) by a full second. With qualifying out of the way, heats would commence.

We saw Wheel (18) winning heat one, Ginger in heat 2, and Gage in Heat 3. Heat one was an interesting one as we saw a dead heat between the 18 and the 0 cars. After we reviewed the slow motion replay, it was decided that Wheel had won the heat. It almost seemed like the grandstands were split in half over who won the heat. These two drivers hate each other, and their fanbases are no different. On one side, you have the toothless inbred crowd supporting VLR_Shock, and the snooty high-falutin Yankee fans cheering for SKM_18.

We thought we would see a another Civil War break out, but luckily Big Bossman had a sudden change of heart by stepping away from dissing Hulk Hogan and the late Macho Man Randy Savage. He managed to settle them down by promising Mountain Dew to all the upset rednecks. After a couple of heat-of-the-moment stabbings and chokeslams in the stands, the B Mains were set to commence.

B-Main #1 we saw 89 win, and the returning former powerhouse VLR_JJ return to DTR2 to take 2nd place. During the B Smallz and the consistent BLS_BW get into each other and that caused BW to get on the hook. After the race BW expressed his disliking of Smallz by demanding that he be banned from the rest of the season, or he wouldn't return. Smallz, on the otherhand, in his typical arrogant, steak-eating, 9pm bedtime, look-at-me-im-rich, steroid abusing yankee trash attitude blamed BLS_BW for cutting him off and wrecking himself. Other racers seemed to think Smallz was 100% at fault, however. Stay tuned for further information.

B Main 2 was not nearly as exciting and therefore deserves no mention at all in this article. It was so boring we don't even know or care who won, but rumors say it was SKM_DS5.

After the B-Mains and hellraising were done, the A-Main would finally commence. The lineup was as follows The Gingerly Ginger on point, Next to him was BLS J-MAC. Next in line was the brother of Wheel, DS5, then Dirty Dirk. The Wilmington Wildchild Momper will start inside row 3. VLR_Gage, VLR_Shock, Wheel, Orso, and finally JJ rounded out the star-studded field. We line up in reverse average finish to give less than great racers a chance, and to have the great racers work a little bit. The format has worked well for VLR the last few season and has led to lots of great passing action, and massive wrecks that the fans love when the shitty drivers fall back into the waiting bumpers of the seasoned veterans.

At the drop of the green off they went to grab the fast bottom, however that wasn't the only fast line on the track. On lap two we saw 3-wide action as we saw Momper on the bottom, J-MAC above him, and Dirty Dirk almost in the wall making the top line work, with bump drafting help from VLR Shock.

Through turns three and four following three wide action through one and two, DS5 makes a move to drag race Ginger down the frontstretch for the lead. That lap DS5 led, by a speck of dirt hanging from the nose. Early in the race the bottom line was the line to be in, with a draft train working. Ginger was forced up high after the move from DS5 costing him another position after former teamate Momper passed him. Momper is on a tear as he passed DS5 in the next turn and holds the lead for a handful of laps. There is contact between J-MAC and Ginger which causes KG to hit the rear side of Momper's car, forcing him to move up. Ginger leads the lap, however all the banging must have unsettled them and on the next lap there is an ugly crash in the bottom of turn one, it happened like this

-Ginger leads the lap with the fast moving V49 and J-MAC on his tail.
-Ginger chokes under pressure and the car almost loops.
-J-MAC nails the side of the red headed weirdo and sends him down to Gage, who finishes Ginger off.

This accident collected Ginger, J-MAC, V49, Momper, and slowed down DS5 a little bit.

Now it was VLR_Shock in the lead, suddenly going from 6th to 1st in one corner, with last year's almost winner Wheel chasing him down using the top line in turns one and two, pleasing the people in the pits as he almost put his rear tire in the pit entrace. After slinging shit loads of mud onto the redneck fans, the Wisconsin Wildchild set his sights on arch rival VLR_Shock. And he went low in turns three and four. After some intense handiwork from Wheel and Shock, wheel finally got under Shock and took the lead.

After that Ginger had some trouble and had to pull of the track, probably due to the big one earlier in the race. After some good racing in the back of the field, Wheel was pulling away, and Shock couldn't catch him. 40 laps later, Wheel took the checkered flag. The wisconsin driver was happy to win this year, as last year he had a poor restart after the KK21JR machine had a mechanical failure on lap 22 and cost himself the race.

Next week we're going to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC. This should be an interesting show, as points are extremely tight, the top four are seperated by less than five points in the closest points battle in VLR history! Cherokee Speedway is known for some amazing racing, three wide action is normal, and hitting the tires on the bottom line is to be expected as well. Low driving drivers will have to be aware. See you next week for some more amazing VLR action!
