Wheatland, Missouri - The Lucas Oil Tier System was put in place for DTR2 with the idea of having the best 10 drivers in the series racing against one another. Although some of the top guns didn’t show regularly the inverting of the top 10 in points has kept the racing close all season.
Wheel would win the 1st week and was the points leader for the 1st half of the season winning 3 of the 1st 5 events and would extend a healthy points lead until missing a race on week 7. He would pick up his 4th win of the season week 9 @ Charlotte and would regain the points lead but would have mechanical issues during week 10 and would mathematically eliminate himself from contention.
Shock would be another driver that would garner a lot of success during the 1st season of the Tier Series. Picking up wins during weeks 6-7-8 at Portsmouth, OCFS, and Lawrenceburg. Shock would ascend to the top of the points for a couple of weeks until a faulty alarm clock would keep him from earning any points during week 9 at Charlotte.
So at the end of the year we are down to a 3 driver race for the points championship with 2 races to go. Points leader McGee has been in this situation before, "Although I haven't won a race here this season I have been really consistent and these last 2 weeks are tracks that I'm pretty darn good at. I really feel like I may be one of the drivers to beat at Thunderbird. I know not to push my car any harder than I normally do but with drivers like BLS_Kev and WFO 11 I know I will probably have to be more aggressive at Thunderbird because it is one of my better tracks and I will probably be alittle more careful at Thunder Valley and let the chips fall where they may."
Rusty was also asked what he thought about the points format for the Lucas Oil Series. "I think it's a very good idea doing it that way and I commend you for coming up with it. It gives everyone a chance to win!"
Kevin, who has 1 win at WFO 2k11 sits 1 point back is as hungry as any driver out there for a championship. "Hell this would be a huge championship for anyone in this game. You have to show up every week to have a chance and I have given myself an opportunity to win the 1st LOTS championship. I hope I'm known as one of the cleaner racers in DTR2, however coming from the back is going to make a difference in the way I race the last 2 races because I've always raced the same but with all 3 of us will have to have come from the back so if someone is holding me up well I might have to kick it up a bit but I think that most drivers in Tier 1 will give a tiny bit of slack to the guys going for the championship.
WFO 11 was unavailable for comment sits tied for 2nd in points but has proven to be a very tough competitor on the season. Ryan won at Volusia in week 10 and has some momentum going into the final 2 races of the year. Both the other championship competitors consider WFO 11 as the most aggressive of the 3 which could help in working through traffic.
With 2 races to go and one point separating the top three and 58 different drivers have shown up to race the 1st Lucas Oil Tier Series has been a rousing success and we look for the biggest turnouts of the year in the final 2 races. I would personally like to thank every driver that has came out this season to support us and we will be hosting another Tier Series starting in January.
