LAWRENCEBURG, INDIANA (August 23, 2012)- Lawrenceburg Speedway packed in fans like sardines for the Zombie Graphics 50 Lap event. After last week, fans knew that race 2 would make for an even better event. Many haulers filled the pits including the Super Dirtcar regulars such as VLR_21* (Geneva, NY), Gibbz (Waterloo, NY), ERL_JMac (Amsterdam, NY), 51g (Geneva, NY), ATR_22p (Rushville, NY), BLS_Kev (Houston, TX), IFRT_Fly, Dom Roselli (New York) and hometown hero HLR_Brad (Lawrenceburg, IN).
Many new faces made the attempt at the 20,000 dollar prize. Drivers such as HLR_CD (New York), JFR_97 (North Carolina), Kmars (New York), WFO_Greezy (Louisiana), BLS_34 (New Jersey), and Indiana native BLS_v6!. The track was very wet for the heat racing action due to flooding that drenched the track. Heat 1 was brought home by last weeks Canandaigua winner VLR_21* with his New York kin 51g taking home 2nd, for a New York 1-2 finish. Heat 2 was taken by Houston, Texas driver BLS_Kev, followed by the fellow southerner WFO_Greezy of Slidell, Louisiana. Another New York driver, Gibbz, claimed Heat 3 followed by JFR_97.
The B-Main consisted of some serious incidents that played a big part in the end result. Penalties were given to the offenders and everything was taken care of. Kmars brought home the win in the B Main after avoiding the wrecks. HLR_Alec took 2nd followed by HLR_CD and ATR_22p. ATR_22p had blue smoke coming from under the hood of the Troy Lee designs #22p going over the scales and decided to load it up. With 22p leaving, Amsterdam, New York's ERL_JMac would transfer to the A Main to fight for his spot in the points battle.
After track prep, it was finally time to go green at Lawrenceburg Speedway. With Gibbz starting his Trouts Recycling #12g on the pole, The rest of the field had their work cut out for them after Gibbz had an extremely strong run in the heat.
BLS_Kev would start the 42 Machine 2nd, followed by 51g, VLR_21, and Greezy rounded out the top 5. The green dropped and Gibbz was out to the lead with BLS_Kev breathing down his neck just patiently waiting for a mistake. VLR_21* would steal 3rd and the top 5 were pretty spread out as the laps went on. Lap 18 created some excitement as VLR_21* met the turn 4 wall and popped a tire. This would result in Velez (v21) going to the rear. With 32 to go, Gibbz new he had little to no room to screw up. BLS_Kev and 51g on the other hand had nothing on their mind but the checkered flag.
The race went another two laps before another caution was brought out by HLR_72. With 30 to go the crowd was anxious to see the outcome of this race after being notified that the radar did not look good. Heavy showers were in the distance, and close to halfway, the fans knew that it was all on the line after the next five laps. Lap 27 came and that was it. The rain had arrived and the race was called at that point. Gibbz would bring the #12g Bicknell Chassis to victory lane.
"Man, it sure is awesome to grab my first win! I hate to win a rain shortened race, but a win is a win," said Gibbz. "I Knew once we were at the 30 to go mark the rain was coming, and with the fact that I havent raced the 42 car to much in my career, I had my work cut out for me. It feels great to win against a respectable driving record like Kev's, but I wish we could have duked it out till the end."
With the win, Gibbz was able to advance two spots in the Super Dirtcar point standings to claim 4th place. VLR_21* would maintain the point lead due to his Double point night win back in Canandaigua, NY.
