I was thinking about getting a steering wheel for use within the game. I am not a hardcore racer but want to see how it feels using a wheel instead of a keyboard.

Was just curious what wheels people out there use.

I'm not looking for anything fancy but I have Windows 7/32 bit and want to make sure it's going to work. I saw the old Microsoft sidewinder precision racing wheel for cheap online but didn't know if it worked with Windows 7.

What are people's opinions on steering wheels? Appreciate any opinions you all have.

Thanks VLR... Does anyone have the Sidewinder with Windows 7 and if so have you had any issues? I know that's an older wheel and just want to make sure I buy something compatible. I'm doing some other research online but thought this would be best place to ask fellow racers!

I have been using my black MoMo for about 4 years. The only problem I found with it tho, is that the gearing inside the wheel for force feedback will strip. But other than that, I have used the G27 and absolutely hated it, there is a lot of play in the wheel, and in this game and others you really don't want that. I have LOVED my MoMo and would recommend using it. A lot of people in this game use it, and not too many complain, but I will tell you to wrap the throttle with a rag and tape because you will break the corner off trying to get more throttle :) and the brake will eventually need to be bungeed :p that's just wear and tear. the newer G27s are really good with wear and tear but the play in the wheel just takes it away from being good for this game. If your moving your wheel more that 1 inch in either direction then your slowing down. Just go with what you can afford, and the MoMo is pretty affordable at amazon, or if u can find a new one on ebay. Good Luck!

I ran a MOMO as well for about 5 or 6 years and really liked it until it died on me...I was able to get a G-27 and like JSN I hated it because it had a ton of play in it but I did find the right settings to get the play out of it and now I wouldn't use anything else! So yeah for my money I run a G-27!\

So we finish 18 and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.' And he says, 'Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I got that goin' for me, which is nice

You are correct ICE and I completely forgot about the "degree of Rotation" settings, and after I took mine back, someone told me you can take the play out of it by setting the rotation to 900 (I think). And with me runnin SCE (Nascar) I really wish I had it back, cause I REALLLLLLLY need a clutch! SO ya if you have money then the G27 is DEFINATELLY the way to go, IF, you can get the play out of it! I bought a Sidewinder at a rummage sale yesterday for $1.00, I brought it home to see if it was any good. I just took it back and told them to keep the $1.00. I would rather play with my busted MoMo than use that thing. It has NO force feedback and it has a centering spring. It also has no profiler. To me it was way to loose to play DTR2, but that's jmo. I would say get a MoMo instead of a Sidewinder, you can get them both for about the same price, and the MoMo has way better settings, and it has a profiler. again JMO!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

The sidewinder also sits too low to really get a good feel, the MoMO is set in the upwards position to better accommodate the desktop, so you will have it in your grasp pointing to your chest instead of the SW being pointed down to your belly

I use a thrustmaster ff430. great wheel and pedals are ok. the gas pedals work off a spring like piece of steel, and mine kept breaking. These were more for nascar and formula type racing where there is not a lot of "goosing" going on. well as you know, there is a tremendous amount of that with dtr2 so the damn thing kept breaking. they were good about sending replacements once they understood what it was. being from England or something it took a while. Anyways, I just jerry rigged something way better and now it works like a charm. just put a diff spring in there. The wheel itself is awesome. shifters right on the wheel ( i'm too lazy to shift). I bought a G27 at first but I couldn't get it to work and it had way too many settings for me. This was less than half the price. I wont use anything else now.

Yeah I'm watching those auctions already BLS, I appreciate you all taking the time to put all this good information out there. What's the difference between the Sidewinder Force Feedback and Sidewinder Precision, anyone know?

For the $$$ I would take a MOMO any day of the week!

I was using a Thrustmaster 430 for a couple of years. I also broke the pedal springs a few times before going to a local auto store and getting different spring. The wheel it self is really high quality, but i think it was designed for F1 racing. Big thing for me is that no one's sets worked for me. Could never just plug in someone else's set and be competitive. Got a MOMO at the thrift store for $5 and picked up time instantly. Its all i use, or will ever use now. My $200 wheel is just sitting collecting dust now. Trying to get a computer set up for my daughter to use it, so she can be frustrated and waste 1000's of hours a year like me.
