De2 macro import/export Tutorial

This spreadsheet (de2macros.xls) contains the macros that will help you import/export the de2 mesh to Rhino 3d.

Rhino is the only program that seems to be able to edit and then export the polys correctly.

Exporting from the de2 file

1. First open the file in the de2 editor and export all polys from the object you want to edit to a .csv file.

2. Open "de2macros.xls" first in excel and then the macros will be available when you open the de2 exported file (csv file)

3. Run the macro called "csv2raw" to convert to a format that can be read by Rhino.

4. Once the macro finishes, save the resulting file as a msdos.txt file

5. Rename the file to a .raw extension and it will open with rhino.

Importing to the de2 file

1. Export the modified polys to a new .raw file from Rhino. I always give it a new name in case I make a mistake.

2. Open "de2macros.xls" first in excel and then the macros will be available.

3. Open the original .csv file in excel.

4. Open the .raw file in excel.

3. Run the macro called "raw2csv" to convert the .raw file to the correct format for csv.

4. Once the macro finishes, cut and paste the columns to the original .csv file
copy columns a,b,c to columns d,e,f
copy columns e,f,g to columns h,i,j
copy columns h,i,j to columns l,m,n

5. Save the .csv file under a new name, just in case. You can close the other excel files without saving.

6. Open the de2 file and import the polys from the new .csv file.

7. Save the new de2 file. Don't change the name this time.

Test it out and see how you did.

Good Luck, if your going crazy, take a break!

Brilliant stuff Demonic. Were you with nosenseyet team, cos boy, I always enjoyed seeing their work. Not saying Dirt Wizard and the other big editing teams weren't as good, but they to me were the ones that kept breaking the mould on all DE2 editing.
Thanks for this. Will go and see what I can do now, when I get a spare minute or three.

Setting your opponents (AI) series strength.

The actual opponent strength can be fine-tuned using the AI settings given in the Series file. You can set your opponent strength while "trying" out the series.
Go into the series and practice against the AI at the race you are setting up for. Determine whether the AI cars should be faster or slower, exit the sim without saving the race and edit the series.str file in Notepad.
You will find the series.str file here..
C:\Games\Infogrames\Dirt Track Racing2\data\series\_____________series\series.str
Scroll through the events and before you get to the 'drivers', you will see the following settings:

[drivers]

; To adjust your AI strength, use the chart below and replace

; the following values with the ones in this chart
;
; Strength 1 best ability=1.00 worst ability=0.85 (slowest)
; Strength 2 best ability=1.05 worst ability=0.90
; Strength 3 best ability=1.10 worst ability=0.95
; Strength 4 best ability=1.15 worst ability=1.00
; Strength 5 best ability=1.20 worst ability=1.05
; Strength 6 best ability=1.30 worst ability=1.15
; Strength 7 best ability=1.50 worst ability=1.40
; Strength 8 best ability=1.70 worst ability=1.60 (default)
; Strength 9 best ability=1.80 worst ability=1.70
; Strength 10 best ability=1.90 worst ability=1.80 (fastest)

best ability = 1.70
worst ability = 1.60
spread modifier = 0.90

Values given in the chart above, change the settings. If the AI are too slow and those are your settings, you would use Strength 5, and 'adjust' best ability to 1.20 and worst ability to 1.05 and click save.
