New pc with windows 8. this is the error I get.


There was and error while trying to start up Direct3D8 on your video card.

Please try updating your video card drivers, or reinstalling DirectX8. If this doesn't
help, contact your computer manufacturer.

Direct 3D8 error message:

The method call is invaled. For example, a method's parameter may have and invalid
value.




Tried reinstalling, downloading all DirectX's. running program in compatibility for xp,
run as administrator. Can't get game to even open. Been through the forums, havent't
found anything to help yet.

I dont know. When i got my new gaming computer a few months ago it worked fine for me. Even when i upgraded to windows 8.1 a month or so ago. Do you still have your old pc?

Old computer in the trash, started smoking. Still haven't gotten anywhere yet. Probably need someone smart using teamviewer and sparkle socks

The only thing I can think of from a programmers prospective is the method the game is trying to call is deprecated. Meaning, a better thing has been replaced by it. Try getting a version of DirectX that was for XP, if possible.

in my vast research on this problem, came across someone with the exact same problem in 2002.

Play around with your screen resolutions before staring the game. I'd start with 800x600x32 and if that doesn't work 800x600x16 and alternate while increasing the resolutions. I had a similar issue with windows 7 the first time I played it.

no, didn't fix it. just found a post with no reply, thought it was funny that 12 years later, technology still hasn't caught up with dtr2. It shall forever be an enigma. much like the ancient sphinx, the lost city of atlantis, and mexicans who work in chinese restaurants.

Try THIS solution.

turned resolution down to 640-480 on my monitor and game came on. then redownloaded the game, and put my resolution back to normal and game works ok , except for on the pace lap online, but at least the game opens and is playable offline.

Pretty sure that's the exact problem DB had. So download the game on VLR and that worked.

i've done that many many times, no luck yet.

Think i have it straightened out. I went into my NVIDIA Control Panel. Under the "Adjust User Settings with Preview" section. I clicked on the "Use My Preference Emphasising" and slid the bar all the way to the quality side. Don't know why this works, works with just me in a room, haven't tried it with multiple people, to think of it, there's a lot of things i haven;t gotten to try with multiple people yet.
