Check out what I just brought for $400 (aus) of ebay. Was a steal in my eyes. Just need to add some body work and add a computer and I am all done
THE CHASSIS
Made from tube and pipe. Based loosely on a 2003 GAMBLER chassis, from the front radius rod mounts to fuel cell (ex F500).
THE SEAT
Hand made it from 3mm aluminum. I decided to delete the chest guards because this seat has to fit everyone and If I made it fit Me then they would be in the way for skinnier people.
PEDALS
All hand made from aluminum and steel to accurately replicate a real Sprinter.
STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN
The column is stainless steel and has a spline on it for the quick release mechanism. The wheel is made from 4mm plate and has half a universal joint welded onto the back to act as a hub. It has a matching spline that engages the spline on the column the whole assemble has been zinc plated to simulate Aluminum.
HYDRAULIC WING MOVER
Machined from aluminiun with 2 micro switches built inside.
MOTION
Motion is achieved via compressed air. (NOTE: NO COMPRESSOR IS INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION!!) There are 2 cylinders bolted together, 1 up,1 down(acceleration, brake). Each cylinder has a micro switch, 1 registers the application of full throttle, the other registers brake application. The natural position is with the chassis at 0 deg.(level) with the brake cylinder extended and the throttle cylinder retracted. Hit full throttle and the throttle cylinder extends resulting in the chassis rocking back about 7deg, giving the sensation of acceleration. Stab the brake(to turn the car into a corner say) and the brake cylinder quickly retracts and then extends again resulting in the chassis momentarily returning to 0 deg then back to 7 deg. Take your foot of the throttle and hit the brake and both cylinders deflate pulling the chassis to -7 deg simulating hard braking.
PANELS
The Fuel cell is and older F500 cone that I came across and the side panels are made from 1/4 inch MDF and are all unpainted.
Just behind and to each side of the drivers head are the 40watt speakers. VERY LOUD!! I've also mounted a AURA bass shaker to the bottom of the seat so the whole chassis vibrates with the motor.
WHAT"S LEFT TO DO?
This is an unfinished project that has been sitting in the shed for a few years gathering dust so being handy with tools would be good and a basic ability to understand very simple circuitry would help when the odd glitch happens. That being said however it really only needs tidying up and some paint to finish it off. It comes with a small 15" monitor all ready mounted and faired in with black cardboard however all the cardboard is looking a bit warped now and the simulator would really benefit from a larger/lighter LCD screen which would be easy to fit. I had intended to build a hood around it as well but just personal taste. The Fuel cell and side panels need a paint.
I use an old ghetto blaster to run the sound which I will include as well as all the AURA bass shaker equipment.
