Extracting files 14 years 5 months ago #868

Hi,

I've been away from the DTR series for a LONG time and recently dug out the collection. I would like to play around with the car files, unfortunately I don't remember how it's done. I remember copying the data , min and store.pf files into the mods folder and then having to run a series of command prompts, but that is all I remember.

Can anyone help an oldtimer out with a step by step on extracting the files? I'm running XP if that makes a difference on how it's done. BTW, I'm not the most literate at this type of thing, so is you could dumb it down for me, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Mysterion,
I think a real easy way (and I'm not positive this works in XP), but what you can do is go into your dtr2 folder where the data, min, and store.pf files are. Then click the Mods folder and copy the extractpf.exe file into your main dtr2 folder where the .pf files are.

After you do this you should just be able to drag a .pf file over the extractpf.exe file and it will begin extracting the files to your game directory. Do this for the data, min, and store.pf files and then you should be able to check out all the files you have.

Please let me know if you're not sure what I mean or if you need more help with it.

Thanks, that was much easier than typing in the command prompts, although it took a little to find where the files went. They wound up in my "documents and Settings" folder.

Now I have another question.

I want to make a "No grime" car using the Stanger Modified. I copied the car folder for the Stanger and renamed the "Stanger" to Terminator on both the car folder and the STR file in the folder and put them in with my other add-on cars in the cars folder (in the data folder). I changed the car name in the skin folder to Terminator also.

The game won't start with the Terminator folder in place.

What am I forgetting to do?

Also IIRC to do a no grime car, you just reduced the grime image to 1 pixel, correct?

Again thanks for any help

I guess for a no grime car download this file and paste it over your original grime.tga file in the misc folder of the chassis you want to edit...or basically just paint the grime.tga file all black I suppose

Any idea on what I'm doing wrong to get the car in the game?
