I was thinking of changing how we lineup races for VLR this upcoming season. It's pretty much how the WoO Sprints do their lineups.

First, they qualify, which we do at VLR anyways. The heats are lined up by qualifying results but then the top 4 or 6 is inverted in the heats, depending on car count.

The top 6 in the A Main is lined up by qualifying times for whoever makes it through the heats. So, if you are sandbagging to be in the front of a heat, you probably won't be starting towards the front of the A Main. The Fast Qualifier will be rewarded with the pole position in the A Main if he races his way into the A Main thru his heat race.

Also another thing that could possibly happen is the B Main winner will get their time back and can start wherever their time ranks in the A Main lineup.

This is just a thought that i would like some opinions on... Thanks, VLR_18

it seems like a good idea on paper , and i do know it works out in real life races
im not sayin it wouldnt work online
but it is confusing to the casual fan in real life
and could possibly be confusing to some online drivers , cuz lets face it , not everyone takes the time to read the rules ,let alone understand them

i do think it could bring in a different element of competition , specifically in qualifying
knowing your qual time is what sets up the AMain lineup , provided you transfer from the heat

as for transfering from the bmain , and getting your time back - i would say that wouldnt exactly be fair to the top 4/6 who made it thru thier heats , maybe the transfers from BMains get the final 4 spots , but are re-lined up based on thier qual times? so even if you are last xfer from B , you could possibly start 7th

when it comes to vlr. i say stop the qualfying.. One of the reason i dont run much is because i dont have the time., and in cases like this i would never ever start towards the front. If you have one guy. lets say shock in this situation because 18 started post. ill stop and start over. I just hate puttin the fastest guy(s) out front.

i dont like the fastest guy to start out front. you lose most of the racing when that happens. atleast when you have a dash race you get the fastest car out of the six to start pole. when you just do the q the same fast guy starts out front most of the time and never even passes a car and wins the race. yes it happens once in a blue moon in real racing, but i would rather see guys race it out. i hate qualifying for dirt track racing. let them race to see where they start. i understand q then invert but still if you invert 4 big whoop. guy still starting outside pole. get rid of the q and do random or reverse starts. throughout the season everyone would get a chance to atleast start out front and see if they can hold on. but when the same 1-3 people q out front and start out front it is never any good racing.

now if we had 50 drivers that were all fast as can be. then it would be a different show. but for now. it wont be good. let some of the slower guys atleast have a front row start in a heat some times, or if you do q do a full invert and race your way in. no pussy 4-6 invert

Yea that was just a thought db, about the B Main winner thing, but what u said about the re-lining up the bottom 4 is cool...and why would rain ever agree with something i say? so rain if u invert the top 6 in a heat, thats pretty much the entire heat in some cases lol, how far back do u want the same 3 fast qualifiers start? If they can drive from 6th to transfer thru the heat, they have earned a top starting spot in my opinion

Well only three of our winners last season started from the pole and only 5 from the front row. Four winners came from sixth or lower...and one from last.

Thats all that im sayin. if you do invert do full invert or it wont be worth it. I prefer the weekly racers way. show up. grab a number. thats it. and way i read it i was thinking top 4-6 qualifiers invert. not top 4-6 n heats. and shock dont starting bringing in those facts bs things on this :P i just truly like the weekend warrior method. gives everyone a shot to start from front row. i say put the fast guys in back, hate seeing them start out front. and on that note in my mind it wouldnt make sense to start the fastest guy out front in feature either. i like to race. i like to see racing. i dont want to go turn laps by myself and race by myself, then its not a race.

Well Rain since usually you show up late and start at the back this will just make you start at the front every week ahead of the rest of the fast guys lol

Yea the top 6 in EACH heat would be inverted, and yes i do think the person starting 6th and gets 3rd should be on the pole if he was fast qualifier...but if we keep getting as many cars as we have been he would have to get 2nd, with only 2 transferring...to make it better even, we could make it that only the winner of each heat gets their time back, the rest just tags the back of the top 6 in the A

i disagree with that. i dont care how the lineups are made. if a guy gets third in a heat i dont belive he should start pole. If you win a heat 1 i say you should start pole on the next race. it is all preference, I just hate to see the fast guys out front all the time. Do invert then run rest of night straight forward. run top 12 invert for heat lineup then straight rest o night.

lol thats what im saying rain, invert the heats, and if u win the heat, then u get to use ur time from qualifying in the a main, so the 3 heat winners, no matter who they are, doesnt matter if they qualified 1st or 21st, they use their time compared to the other heat winners to lineup the top 3 in the a main

weekly racing in my area (northwest pa / southwest ny / northeast ohio)
draw pills to set heats , x amount transfer from heat to AMain
--some of the tracks (not all) redraw for the top 12 starting spots in the AMain - so you could win your heat and start 12th , or be the last to transfer from a heat and start pole

there are a lot of different ways to do it
i agree with rain , that racing is what makes it fun to watch and be a part of

(i follow late models more than sprints) the 2 national touring series have basically gone to straight up racing , fast guys out front - which doesnt exactly put on the best show , leaders pull away and never look back , unless its a long race (50+ laps) then tire wear and lap traffic comes into play -- this is what one the largest complaints i hear/see/read at the track or on message boards

people want to see racing not follow the leader

im not trying to shut down any idea any one has for adding something new to the fold in dtr2

one thing i would like to see is - if you do qualifying to set heats - the 1st car on the grid should be able to pick inside or outside starting spot - same for the BMain and AMain

This is something I agree with.

Now for how I think it should be done- Line up the heats randomly. X cars transfer and for the first race of the series, they start heads up. Winner of heat one has pole, heat 2 has outside pole of A. Then, for every race for the rest of the series, The heats get lined up randomly, the ones that transfer get lined up by points. The guy that transfers thats the lowest in points gets the front, the guy thats highest in points starts in the back. Those that transfer from the B start in the back in the order they finished the B. For the guys that make their first race somewhere in the middle of the season, they start last since they have no points. For heats they start in the back, everybody else gets randomized.

That sounds good to me.
A main wins: 151*'

B main wins: 50

C main wins: 5

D main wins: 1

i understand what your saying jmac , but with dtr2 there is no way to set random to the feild and designate 1 car to start tail
when you set everyone with the same points (say 100) it will then determine the "random" lineup by racers name in alphabetical order (at least thats what was explained to me at one time)

You're thinking inside the box Deadbolt. You gotta think outside the box. Fire up a randomizer. Randomize everybody thats racing, get the line ups from there, tag the new guy on the back of the line up and let everybody know whos starting where in the Ventrilo chat. You make the lineups outside the game.

Unless you'd rather do everything by series points. Just completely randomize the first heats of the series, then after that line everything up by points for each race. But I like my above idea. Combine that with allowing the leader to choose top or bottom and we'll have a pretty dang realistic series.

For JFR, were putting names in a hat and pulling them out. 1st name pulled starts pole 1st heat. 2nd name pulled start pole 2nd heat and so on. (I really dont know what were doing but thats how i like it done).

Our local track does pill draw for heat races and then point inversion for feature lineups. So if theres 3 heats, the top 3 cars in each heat would be placed in the point inversion for feature lineup. The point inversion takes your last 3 finishes so the less pts you have the further you start toward the front in the feature if you finisht top 3 in heat. This usually provides for good racing since the fast guys start in 3rd or 4th row and have to work there way thru the field. Maybe for dtr2, do point invert system and invert the top 6 if your eligible due too a good heat finish.
