VLR Preview for OCFS Sunday!
We break down every driver so far who has raced VLR this season in this preview for the 2/21/16 race at OCFS! (Listed in order of current point standings):

1. XCR_Orso - Orso has started Season 24 of VLR the same way he ran most of the season last year, atop the point standings. The Illinois driver seems to have the best shot of knocking perennial champion SKM_18 off the top spot at VLR. Orso was able to grab the win at OCFS last season, though SKM_18 was not able to make the race. Look for the 89 to be up front again Sunday.

2. SKM_18 - Wisconsin driver SKM_18 started off the season in a foul mood after leading at Cedar Lake in the closing laps only to finish 4th. He turned his frustration into motivation and immediately won the following week before finishing third in the most recent race after starting in the back. SKM_18 is now heading to one of his best tracks and it should help him continue to build momentum at OCFS.

3. VLR_JW - The Mississippi Missle was well on his way to a win in the season opener at Cedar Lake, but a late caution derailed his hopes and he settled for a runner up finish. This guys finally looks to run his first full VLR season and will make a ton of noise. If hot laps are any indication, this guy is the man to beat this week at OCFS.

4. VLR_JJ - This guy was once unstoppable, and looks to be slowly getting back to that level. Look for JJ to make some noise this week as he gets more laps after not racing in a couple of years. By the end of the season we should see this guy winning races and near the front every week.

5. VLR_LastPlace - The newest member of VLR, LP has already shown what impressed the VLR leadership in the young season. The Pennsylvania driver finished second in his first start as a VLR member at Roaring Knob a couple weeks ago. OCFS isn't his favorite track, but come A Main time he will be near the front.

6. VLR_Shock - It's lower-than-expected territory for VLR_Shock right now, as internet issues have plagued him every race, ending chances for good finishes. He did pull off a third place in the opener, but since then has struggled and missed his first A Main in three years after connection issues at Roaring Knob. OCFS is one of his best tracks (2nd last season) so look for him to get back on top if he can work out his internet problems.

7. XCR_KingGinger - The Ginger has had a good start to his season at VLR. Two sixth place finishes and a ninth in the first three races have kept him fairly high in points. This guy is still a "rookie" compared to most of the racers at VLR and that makes his finishes even more impressive. Look for him to continue to improve each race as he chases a championship at VLR.

8. VLR_Superman - Superman is back after a two year layoff and looks as good as ever. The East Tennessee native has made every A main so far this season, but currently has a best finish of 9th. Not bad considering minimal practice time, but he should improve as he shakes off the rust as the season goes on.

9. WFO_Rainman - The long-time racer from Illinois is putting together a decent season so far after a flashy start at Cedar Lake where he ran in the top 3 most of the race. He was out of action for nearly a year but has returned with a vengeance and looks like the old Rainman again. OCFS is a type of track that plays into his driving style and it won't be a surprise if he sneaks into Victory Lane.

10. SKM_DS5 - The little brother of many time champion SKM_18 is having a good start to his season. He's coming off his best finish of the season at Roaring Knob and looks to improve on the 8th place this week at OCFS.

11. VLR_Momper - Momper is extremely high in points for not recording any points for one race, and has a best finish of 7th so far. This is a guy who can get on a hot streak and win a few races though, so keep an eye on him.

12. VLR_Atwood - Atwood sits 12th in points currently and looks to make a big leap Sunday at OCFS as he continues to get better every week.

13. WFO_RB - RB has raced 2 of the 3 races this season and has a best finish of 11th. The New Yorker will head to his home state track Sunday with something to prove for his fans. Look for him up front.

14. SKM_Smallz - Pennsylvania driver Smallz had a rough start to the season, and was a no-show at Roaring Knob. Still, the lightning fast newcomer sits 14th in points and can easily make a big leap in points, starting with a good finish at OCFS.

15. WFO_GetReal - At one time GetReal was one of the top drivers in the game. After a long break, he's back and finally getting back in the swing of things. This is another driver who should get better and better as the season progresses.

16. VLR_END - End started the season with a bang at Cedar Lake by making the A Main. Since then he's faded, but he will look to right things this week at OCFS and get back in the limelight at VLR.

17. Waidler - Waidler is another old time racer who has returned to dirt track racing action. The Michigan driver has started slow, but gets better every week. OCFS should be a good track for him.

18. XCR_Basham - Basham surprised himself by making the prestigious A Main at the USA Nationals to start the season. The next race didn't go as well for him, but his great start to the season proved that he could hang with the big boys. Look for him to make the A Main at OCFS this week.

19. J-Mac - The Keyboard Warrior is off to a sluggish start at VLR this season, but OCFS is one of his home state tracks and he always does well here. Finishes of 18, 14, 6, and 11th here at VLR have shown that he is capable of steady improvement. We foresee J-MAC powering his car into the A Main this week to the delight of the home crowd.

20. VLR_43a - 43a is another long time racer who retired but couldn't resist climbing back into his late model one more time, this time with VLR in front of his name. The support from VLR hasn't paid off with any wins yet, but it's definitely breathed new life into his career and should pay off with some good finishes soon. He definitely has a hot rod at OCFS if hot laps are any indication.

21. War48 - Another blast from the past, War48 is back after many many years of not racing in DTR2. His best finish is 18th so far, but he continues to improve and will be running much better with more laps this year.

22. XRL*Twiz - Perhaps the most surprising winner in VLR's long history, the New York driver has had an up and down season thus far. Finishes of 24th, 8th, and 25th have hurt his momentum, but a good finish at OCFS will get him headed in the right direction.

23. XRL_blake28 - This rookie has only raced one race so far but it was a good one. He finished 11th in his only VLR career start. One spot better and he'd have made the A Main. Look for him to make a few A Mains this season as he builds his reputation up.

24. WFO*Duster - Duster hasn't had the kidn of season he hoped yet, but he is a guy who can go under the radar and will sneak into a few A mains this season for sure. Look for him to be in the A Main this week as he tries to turn his season around.

25. VLR_Rac - Rac is another guy who is returning after a long layoff. The Kansas driver once was near the top of the All Time VLR Winners list, but has since faded back some. He's improving every week though and should be back to contending for top fives very soon.

26. BLS_Stephen33 - Stephen, yet another old time racer. He has returned to the game and despite finishing 21st in his only start this season, is a guy who can make up ground in a hurry. He will be tough at OCFS.

27. ICE_KK21JR - KK has only raced one race this season and finished 17th. Don't let the finish fool you though, this guy is a top 10 driver in the game when he is racing every week. He can and will be near the front at OCFS and will make a big leap up in points.

28. WFO_Goldfish - This guy is known more for his mouth than his racing, but he is a specialist at the tough tracks that give some racers fits. The Ashtabula Asshole will be looking to record his best career finish at VLR this week when we visit OCFS.

29. WFO_Faschek - The ladies man of DTR2 hasn't had a good start to the season at VLR. However OCFS is one of his better tracks and he should be a force to be reckoned with at the big 5/8 mile track.

30. Hoover - West Virginia driver Hoover will look to improve on his 24th at Cedar Lake this week at OCFS.

31. WFO_Greezy - Greezy returned and made his first start at Roaring Knob. 21st wasn't what he was hoping for, but it will give him something to build on at OCFS this Sunday.

32. Peanut - Peanut has started racing online in dtr2 and has been surprisingly fast. Do not be shocked to see him make the feature at OCFS and grab a good finish.

33. Joseph J10 - This real life late model racer has made one start so far, and logged a 21st place finish. As he gets experience look for him to start making, and eventually winning A Mains at the VLR series.

34. VLR_Bubba - Bubba only has raced one race this season and it ended in a DNF. Anyone who knows him though, knows he is very capable of winning at the highest level. Look for him to rocket up the points standings with a top five finish this Sunday at OCFS!

There you have it, a driver by driver preview for Sunday's race at OCFS. We hope to see all of you and more in VLR Ventrilo at 8:30pm eastern on Sunday for the Eastern States Weekend 45 at the always exciting OCFS 2k12 Slick! Cya there. Visit www.teamvlr.com for more info.

Eric41 looks to make his first start of the season after fixing his transporter. He has made at least one VLR start since season 18, making him one of the longest active drivers in VLR history. Eric41 has a career best finish of 8th with VLR. OCFS is not his favorite track, but look for him to be a force to reckon with come Sunday night.

Middletown, NY (February 21, 2016) Team VLR Promotions headed up northeast to New York for its yearly visit to the historic Orange County Fair Speedway for the Eastern States 45. Why 45 laps? Who the hell knows?

Fortunately it was uncharacteristically warm for this time of year in New York with temperatures in the mid-to-upper single digits and a pleasant breeze coming out of Canada. Local resident XRL_XCR_IFRT_AIR_WFO_RB_VLR/Tiremaster was nowhere to be seen, as he headed down to Florida to spot for Danica Patrick in the Daytona 500. Despite his solid advice including, "ah, go faster", "you suck", “work it bitch,” and "WTF was that shit!!!" she only mustered a 36th place finish. RB was promptly demoted to rim-washer after his disappointing debut as a spotter.

Qualifying went off without any delays despite a nice field of 25 cars. XCR_KingGinger blistered the field with an amazing lap of 15.71 to grab his first pole of the year. Shock, Wheel , Rainman and JJ rounded out the top 5.

Some notable absences included point leader XCR_Orso and third place VLR_JW. It is my understanding that during a late night programming session, Orso was sucked into the digital world like Jeff Bridges in the movie TRON. If one had to be sucked into a movie with Jeff Bridges, The Big Lebowski would be better than TRON. You drink White Russains all day and get to fornicate with a circa/1997 Julianne Moore. The Dude abides. Orso, with his amazing computer skills, somehow got a message through to VLR_Shock to use his "magical" car for one week only. He must have felt sorry for Shock not even making the Amain in the last race. Shock quickly got Orso’s car wrapped up with his own paint scheme and was ready to roll.

Someone in the pits suggested running some heats, so, like, that’s what we did.

Heat #1 was a snooze fest with SKM_Wheel and KG running away from the field. Some fast cars were left in the wake and had to move onto the Bmains. Any time Wheel and Ginger finish 1-2 in a race, you know the fans had to leave disappointed as these are two of the most disliked drivers in the world.

Heat #2 saw Team VLR take the 2 transfer positions, with VLR_Shock taking the win over VLR_JJ. It was the first time this season that Shock transferred to the A Main directly through the heat, so Orso’s car had already paid dividends.

Heat #3 was the most action packed as WFO teammates Fascheck and Rainman had difficulty and DNF'd the heat. The last of the Independent drivers, J-mac took the easy win over WFO_GetReal. Could this be the week J-mac breaks into the win column for his first VLR win? Ah, if you read the headline you already know Shock won, so, no. But OCFS is one of J-macs best tracks and maybe the headlines were some kind of swerve. Not only that, J-Mac has a big fan following in his home state of New York and that extra motivation could feed him to a good finish.

Bmain #1 saw the front row VLR Teammates of Atwood and Lastplace walk away from the field in an uneventful race.

Bmain #2, to quote Wheel, was “one of the worst races I have ever seen.” ICE_KK and the returning Geisler took off from the start. From 3rd on back, it looked like a deleted scene from the Fast and the Furious, without the horrific acting of Vin "one facial expression" Diesel. SKM_DS5 thought he would outfox everyone with some harder tires that would come in when everyone else would start to fade. It was a good idea gone wrong...Google “New Coke” for more examples.

Some good news for Dillon is that he won the prestigious KY Petroleum Jelly Hard Luck Award after everyone lubed him up and ran the hell over him lap after lap. VLR_Superman was another driver with hard luck after getting shook up like a vending machine that won’t spit out a bag of chips.

With the preliminaries in the books it was onto the Amain. The race started with Wheel and Shock on the front row side by side and it stayed that way for the next 45 laps. These 2 put on a clinic of how to race clean, side by side. Some drivers need to check the replay out. Can't count how many lead changes there were. But I can only count to twelve to begin with so don’t get too excited.

You knew it would be a hell of a finish. On the last few laps, Wheel realized he used too much of his highly illegal acetone tire softener as he faded just enough for Shock to get the win as the #0 finally cleared Wheel on the final lap. Wheel said after the race “I have the amount of acetone softener to use perfectly calculated for all race conditions but I accidentally threw my sheet away before the race and ended up miscalculating it by two laps. I won’t make the same mistake next week.”

This was an unusually long dry spell for Shock, as he had not won a feature since season 22, and has not had sexual intercourse with a real person in an equally similar amount of time. KG came in third, J-mac with his best career VLR finish came in 4th. Rounding out the top 5 was ICE_KK. The rest of the top ten was LP, Geisler, Atwood, Get Real and JJ.

Next week we head to Lasalle Speedway in LaSalle, ILL for the Mompertown 50. Come get a taste and try to win the cash! www.teamvlr.com for more info.

BULLS GAP, TN (March 6, 2016) – VLR_JW came home the winner in Sunday Night's Spring Thaw 60 at Volunteer Speedway for his first win in an up-and-down start to the VLR season. The ‘Mississippi Missle’ led every lap of the race but had to fend off strong challenges from hard-charging teammate VLR_Shock in the closing laps.

Home-state driver Shock ended up in second when the dust settled after rallying from his eighth place starting position. XCR_KG bounced back from his frustrating 23rd place finish at his home track of LaSalle last week to finish third in the Volunteer state.

Point leader XCR_Orso ran as low as ninth before charging back through the field and finishing fourth with a last lap pass. SKM_18 brought home fifth after bringing out a caution midway through the 60 lap event and restarting at the tail of the field.

The 70 car of VLR_JW quite possibly could have won three of the first six races to start the year, but bad luck in the opener at Cedar Lake, and then again a week ago at LaSalle had kept him out of victory lane thus far. Sunday he was out to show that he is a true championship contender after snagging his first win of the season.

"It feels good to get the monkey off my back this year finally," said the 31 year-old following his dominating performance. “I knew we had a really good car again, but we’ve had a good car all year and the end result hasn’t panned out. The cautions the in USA Nationals (at Cedar Lake) cost us a five second lead two different times and the last one everybody pounced on me. Then last week a lap car drifted up in front of me and took us out.

"Then I had a big lead again tonight and saw the caution come out for Wheel there and I was thinking ‘not this again.’ Luckily this time we were able to hang on. Shock was right on my bumper for a while though and closed up towards the end but we did a good job of saving our tires some and getting the win. It feels good for sure."

JW started from the outside pole position but made quick work of pole-sitter BLS_BW, who was making his first start of season at VLR, and never looked back. BW was trying to shake off the rust for much of the race and slowly drifted back as drivers VLR_Shock, VLR_LP, and VLR_JJ all charged toward the front from their poor starting positions. SKM_18 (Wheel) brought out the only caution of the race on lap 28 when he blew a tire in turn two while running second. After the restart with 32 to go, he managed to climb as high as fourth before Orso got around him on the final corner in an epic three car battle between the duo and VLR_JJ.

After the caution, VLR_JW and VLR_Shock set sail on the field as the two teammates raced away while ICE_KG made a move to third place and held on to match his best career VLR finish, just one week after recording his worst finish at VLR in the Mompertown 50 at LaSalle. VLR_LastPlace started in last place (naturally) and rallied all the way to fourth before the only caution flew. The Selinsgrove, PA driver must used his tires up in his frenzied run to the front and eventually faded back to finish seventh. VLR_JJ was another driver who got a great start to the race before fading late. Still, the Milton, FL driver came home with a strong sixth place finish. JJ has not finished worse than seventh so far this season. BLS_BW43 ended up eighth, followed by VLR_Momper and WFO_Gates in tenth.

VLR_Shock has found a rhythm after a frustrating start to the season due to internet issues. The last three races have been much smoother and the Tennessee native has finished 1st, 2nd, and 2nd. "I feel really good right now and I’m getting in a groove now that my internet issues seem to be resolved. I won at OCFS and then the last two weeks we’ve been at tracks I’m not usually all that great at, so to come home with back-to-back second place finishes gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the year.

I want to congratulate JW on the win, though, he definitely deserved it. He’s had more bad luck than anyone I can remember this year and I was pulling for him to get a win. It’s a great 1-2 finish for the team and we’ll come back next week to Outlaw and see if we can get another good finish.”

Fast qualifier ICE_KG powered his Jimmy Johns dirt late model to a third place finish and was satisfied with his run following the A Main.

“I want to thank my guys for helping me get this car ready this week for some high-banked racing here in Tennessee. Last week we left out early and I was really disappointed in front of the home crowd to not make the A Main, so I wanted to show this week that I could run with the best guys in the business and I feel like we did that.

If I had made a little better tire selection I think I could have hung up there with JW and Shock but it was still a good race for us either way. I really like next week’s track (Outlaw Motor Speedway) so I hope we can head down to Oklahoma and have another good run. I really want to put this Jimmy John’s car in Victory Lane this year.”

In preliminary action, ICE_KG set the overall Big Ant Studios Fast Time amongst the 26 entrants, with a lap of 11.684 seconds. BLS_BW, VLR_JW, and XCR_Orso won their respective heat races. WFO_Gates and VLR_Shock took home the B Main victories.

Next week the stars and cars of the VLR Dirt Late Model National Tour head to Outlaw Motor Speedway in Muskogee, OK for the “Crank it Up” 50. Visit www.teamvlr.com for more information.
