Thanks guys for seeing it in a different light. I know Shock, you are busy and that the site demands so much from you, but to encourage those that don't race online, you need something to ease them into it. WE have over 300 members dont we..? Where are they? You never know, maybe some budding top sofa drivers out that may decide to give it a go again although are too shy to answer to any ideas you have put forward, cos' I know you have only one thing on your mind and that is to keep this game alive. We do need to try different ideas, even if they've been tried before..... Here's another idea, that has probably been toyed with....
A VLR championship for (V1, V2 V3) proudly dispayed on their cars for a whole year till the next championship date 2012. Also a LateModel World Championship, Sprintcar, Mod, Figure8, Offroad, who knows, to carry the World no 1, 2 qnd 3 in those classes. That would definitely bring in the big guns plus any that aren't sure but is free to give it a go. LIke in any racing, they just might gain the edge through someone slipping up and DNF'in.... Maybe a purse put up by all Leagues to encourage and pull in the old drivers of DTR2 too. But we need a fair system such as an open invitation to all. A Qualifying round which dishes out DNF's for those that put another driver out of the race. Also in the Heats, with a reverse grid system. Those that fail to be in the top 6 positions og the forst night's Heats continue on into a Repercharge for a second chance at Qualifying for the main heats (also 2 heats with Reverse grid) to make up grid positions for the final race and winner takes all.
In regards to this rich race that some are suggesting, where it's only for the elite, that is good idea for a one off series. I'm sure there's no one out there that would begrudge anyone for that. But if you were wearing the no1, 2 or 3 on the side of your car, that should give you the right to be included in that series. We now have the Right Call system in place and that should make a Championship's fair. To make the game surreal is everything for some of these couch potatoes, who can't afford the real racecar but dream of being a Champ. That's why they all want to have tracks that you can race Offline.
It may seem like a lot of work for this League or others organising such events, but it should give that feel of being a group of Online Speedway Clubs that all come together to determine the outright Champ. To me it's exciting and would tempt me to give it a go. We really do need to put in place the chance to have those closetted drivers, come out of the woodwork. Anything is worth a shot.
Thankyou Ice and Deadbolt, and you too Jason for wanting to help the weekend racers out and I'm with you McGee, you old timer you. Put me in the 'B' or 'C' grade class where I won't feel like a sore heel. I've lost too much over the years to be competitve. (Can't stick shift damn it!!)
Cheers guys.
