I would LOVE to see this track done as it's my hometown....closed down in the mid 70's but some of the biggest names of early midwest dirt track racing has raced here (Dick Trickle, Leon Plank, Tom Nesbitt, Punky Manor, Red Steffen, Dave Morgan, Ben Mizer, etc).

Pictures are apparently hard to find but I have pics on my cell I can send to whoever takes this challenge of what the track looks like now (pretty overgrown but can still see the track). Guessing it was about the same size of what Terre Haute is with the banking about the same as Bloom...

Found a newspaper ad for the track, apparently it was a 1/4 mile track...

I worked there when i was in 7th grade/ Al Sirianni ran and /or owned it.His son Tim and my brother Jeff were friends, so that is how we got the job.Sunday night was a big night, or was it Saturday? I am 50 now and live in Colorado, so forgive me if my details are getting sketchy. I worked selling snowcones/cotton candy/popcorn. One night they got robbed at the gate, and i ended up working the beer tent in the pit/was so exciting! I was 14 years old. things were different back then. I had a crush on a boy that worked for Al, his name was John Motzer and his folks had a mink farm near by. I was shy then so except for a soulful kiss under the bleachers, nothing ever came of it-lol! I Loved working there and i made $1.25 an hour!!! i would totally love to see the pics that you have/wish i had some/it was my first job.and i loved it! susan 9705768163 is my number/text me the pics! whoever u are!

lol . . . shoot im an old lady now! IT WAS GREAT working there and being a part of it! I remember the names too of the drivers, leon Plank was an Uncle to some kids i went to jr.high with/ Before i started there you could always hear the races going on, if the wind was right, and we lived in the 3rd ward!

You might consider yourself "old," but I bet Doit 5 above you has you beat . Do you like racing at all or was it just the fact that you worked at the track?

Been working on sending her the photos I got!!!! That's sooooo cool someone knows River City Raceway!!!!! From the way it looks they've had graters out there so I'm wondering if someone bought the property and are rebuilding the track?

If someone is up to the challenge yet I'm sure both Susan and I could help fill in details where pictures lack!

Yeah, stuff is hard to find...Im about to go to bed now but I'll try to meet ya on yahoo later to help you out...Susan drew me an overhead view of where everything was so that will help alot, i'll talk to her later about more details...

Not sure if there was a wall or not but I think Bloomington would be a good start, it was a 1/4 mile track too
