MIDDLEBOURNE, WV (Aug 22, 2016) - The show got a late start, but the high powered dirt late models hit the track and put on hell of a show tonight at the legendary Tyler County Speedway. Every car in attendance from first to last made it fun for the fans.
It was a strong field of cars that hang in there for the weather delay. Talented driver Flyer broke down two hours from the track and never made it. So that was some of the delay besides the storms that passed over the area before the race.
Heat 1 was somewhat of a test n tune to get the feel of the newly remodeled track. WFO Rainman was the first to cross the line to take checkers.
The field lined up quick for the A Main feature that saw VLR Shock and his teammate VLR_Bubba put on an absolute fun show for the field and the fans, with slide jobs back and forth nearly every lap.
The two southern drivers managed to pull away from the rest of the pack despite battling side by side every lap with a few masterful slidejobs thrown in occasionally for good measure. It was clear that the thirty lap main event would be settled amongst the teammates.
Lap after lap, VLR_Bubba would power in on the low side while teammate Shock drove in deep up high to pull even with him coming down the straightaways. With eight laps to go though, the #38 of Bubba made slight contact with his teammate which sent the #0 of Shock into the outside wall. The damage was minor, but it did allow Bubba to regain a half-second lead over Shock.
With time running out it appeared that Bubba would escape with another big win, but Shock was not ready to give up the fight. Over the course of the last five laps Shock managed to close the gap from a half-second down to just a car length as he reeled in Bubba with two laps to go.
As the duo headed into turn three with two laps to go, the Toyota Camry driven by Shock used his front end to give Bubba bump out of his preferred line down low. Suddenly the drivers were side by side at the start finish line heading into the final lap. Shock made an impressive move to slide in front of Bubba in turn one.
Bubba would not be denied that easily after leading most of the race as he would pull even heading down the back stretch for the final time. Bubba dove into turn three one last time with a strong move, while Shock stuck to his preferred high side line. The two came off turn four nearly side by side but at the line it ended up being the #0 of Shock who found himself the winner after a hard-fought 30 lap race at the 1/4 mile bullring which had the fans on their feet from beginning to end.
WFO_ Rainman went with the wrong set up and dropped to 3rd while being ran down by teammate Faschek who wore his RR corner panel out on the wall every lap. This allowed B58 to get a clean pass on him which is becoming more common seeing 58 running consistent and towards the front. Teammate to B58 took advantage as WFO Fas went down with a RF flat.
The TIGSLAYER MACHINE dropped a motor a few laps in and will be looking to recover this week! We had an awesome crowd for this special race and it was great seeing so many cars come out at the late hour. Hope to start a series and run one night a week at 11pm for a trophy! Thank everyone who came out to race or just come to set in vent and talk about the race. We will release more info on a once a week deal soon!
