Moyer Takes Battle at the Beach 50 at Tri-City Speedway

PONTOON BEACH, IL (July 13, 2012) - Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR took the gloves off, and is taking home the trophy for the Battle of the Beach 50 at Tri-City Speedway. He led the first 17 laps of the race until O'Neal powered ahead of him, coming from his 12th starting spot to take the lead on lap 18. O'Neal then led Moyer until his left rear tire went flat on lap 27.

Moyer and pole setter Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN paced the field for the first 13 circuits of the race. The first caution of the race came out for Billy Moyer Jr. on lap 13, and momentarily halted a good battle for the lead in traffic between and the defending series champion, Owens and Moyer. On the restart, O'Neal, who was up to fifth place, shot to the bottom of the track and took over second on lap 14.

With O'Neal's demise from the lead Moyer paced the field over the last 22 laps of the race. He saw a green-white-checkered finish when Tyler Reddick brought out the final caution with two laps remaining. Moyer then held off Owens for his second Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series triumph of 2012 and his 15th career LOLMDS victory.

"We always like coming here, ever since they reconfigured the race track a few years ago. It's just the perfect size, and to win here again is just tremendous! Kevin (Gundaker) and his staff do a great job here," said the Hall of Fame driver.

Moyer also took notice when O'Neal passed him for the lead. "I knew he started way back, but he must have come up through the field awfully fast! The next thing I knew, he was in the lead. I thought I saw his tire starting to go down, don't know if he ran over something or what, and then he slowed in front of me," said the 54-year-old Moyer, who had to take evasive action when O'Neal slowed in front of him.

"It has been a pretty good year, and to beat these Lucas Oil guys is quite an accomplishment. I want to thank all the fans for coming out tonight, I think they saw a pretty good show," said Moyer to the loud applause from the big crowd on hand to witness the event.

For Moyer, it was his 14th overall win of the season, which tops all dirt late model drivers in the country. His Moyer Victory Circle Chevrolet is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Banner Valley Hauling, L&D Trucking, Watters Auto Land, and Sunoco Race Fuels.

Owens maintains the points lead with his second place finish in the Reece Monument Company, Sunoco Race Fuels, Bloomquist Race Cars Ford. Pearson in the Bobby Labonte, Lucas Oil Products, Longhorn Dodge edged out Steve Francis of Ashland, KY in the Valvoline, Barry Wright Race Cars Chevrolet. The young 15-year-old Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, IL had his best career finish in LOLMDS competition, coming home in fifth in the American Metal Supply, Pierce Race Cars, Chevrolet.

Completing the top ten were: Chris Simpson of Oxford, IA; Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN; O'Neal; Wendell Wallace of Batesville, AR; and Eric Wells of Hazard, KY.

In preliminary action, Brian Birkhofer set the Red Buck Cigars Fast Time amongst the 30 entrants with a lap of 14.552 seconds. Heat races were taken by: Jimmy Owens, Jared Landers, Billy Moyer, and Jonathan Davenport. Scott Bloomquist and Randy Korte won their respective B-Mains. \

Tomorrow night, Saturday July 14th, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heads back to the "Diamond of the Dirt Tracks", Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO, for the 6th Annual CMH Diamond Nationals. The event will include Red Buck Cigars Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the $10,000 to win, 50-lap feature.

So we finish 18 and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.' And he says, 'Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I got that goin' for me, which is nice

Owens Outduels Blankenship in CMH Diamond Nationals at Lucas Oil Speedway

WHEATLAND, MO (July 14, 2012) - In a battle similar to the DART Show-Me 100 on Memorial Day Weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway, Jimmy Owen s of Newport, TN and John Blankenship of Williamson, WV thrilled the large crowd on hand Saturday Night at Lucas Oil Speedway. Owens held off Blankenship on the final circuit to gain the win in the 6th Annual CMH Diamond Nationals earning $10,000 for his win in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event.

Owens and Blankenship ran one-two from the 12th lap. Blankenship led briefly on laps 20 and 21, but Owens rebounded to retake the point on lap 22. The race was slowed by only one caution flag. The two drivers put on quite a show constantly running side-by-side around the 3/8ths mile track.

With lapped traffic playing a factor over the last half of the race, Blankenship chose the low line coming off of turn two on the final lap as Owens was up against the outside wall, but Owens changed lanes and went to the bottom heading into turn three. That move shut the door on Blankenship's attempt for the win. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN made a late-race charge and was almost within striking distance of both leaders as they headed to the checkered flag.

Owens has won back-to-back DART Show-Me 100's at the track and was nearly breathless in victory after a hard-fought 50 laps of racing. "The last two or three times we have been here, it has been a heck of a race! It's great for the fans, it keeps them coming back, I want to dedicate this win to Chad Bryant one of our crew guys, whose father just passed away, he is in our thoughts and prayers," said Owens, who also accepted a diamond ring for his win.

"I am going to have to get on John (Blankenship), he is not supposed to be passing me," said Owens, who sheepishly grinned toward Blankenship's direction in victory lane. "Our car was real good tonight, we started off the race really well, every once in a while you will get a track you like. Tonight they worked on it, my hats off to them, they went out and smoothed it out a little bit," said Owens, who maintains the top spot in the championship points standings

"I have to thank my car owner, Mike Reece, Reece Monument, Gantte Appraisals, Sunoco Race Fuels, Chris Davis from Midwest Sheet Metal, Ohlins Shocks and everybody else who makes this possible, my whole crew did a great job all weekend long, we had a second last night (at Tri-City) and to win tonight before this big crowd is something special."

Blankenship, who finished second to Owens in the DART Show-Me 100 again, was the bridesmaid again tonight in the Coal America's Energy, Rocket Chevrolet as he held off O'Neal in the Optima Batteries Chevrolet . Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN finished fourth ahead of Optima Batteries Hard Charger of the Race, Steve Francis of Ashland, KY in the Valvoline, Barry Wright Race Cars, Chevrolet.

Completing the top ten were: Billy Moyer of Batesville, AR; Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY; Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Tyler Reddick of Corning, CA; and Chris Simpson of Oxford, IA.

In preliminary action, Jimmy Owens set the Red Buck Cigars Fast Time amongst the 34 entrants with a lap of 15.768 seconds. Heat races were taken by: Jimmy Owens, Brian Birkhofer, Billy Moyer, and Jared Landers. Eric Turner and Terry Phillips won their respective B-Mains.

Next weekend, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series makes its way to Greenwood, Nebraska for the "Silver Dollar Nationals" at I-80 Speedway on Friday and Saturday, July 20th and 21st. This will be the first trip to the Joe Kosiski-promoted facility for the LOLMDS. The two-day event will have a unique format and includes two sets of heat races on Friday night. B-Mains and the $25,000 to win, 80-lap feature will cap off the weekend on Saturday night.

was curious because the WoO were in my area this past weekend. They had like 32 lates on friday, than 23 on saturday (lates don't run at this track locally so no cars to help count).

Anyway, i found this interesting too.

rizona's Zach Collins was driving the pickup truck that hauls the GottaRace.com trailer west on Interstate 90 on Wednesday when he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. He stopped to check the problem in a highway service pulloff west of Sioux Falls, S.D., and found flames shooting from the engine. Collins was assisted by Arizona's Damon Isenhart, who was just ahead driving the WoO LMS merchandise trailer, but they couldn't put out the flames, which spread through the truck and soon engulfed the trailer. Fire crews were called to the scene but both the truck and trailer were write-offs -- as was all the contents of the trailer, including apparel for WoO LMS drivers Darrell Lanigan, Rick Eckert, Clint Smith, Pat Doar and Kent Robinson.
