IMO, Ranked hot laps give drivers a chance to see what the other driver is going to do on the start. After 2 "ranked race" hot lap sessions, there's no guessing to what he is going to do, you now know what you need to do to overtake them! In example, a teammate of mine said, "I didn't know what you was going to do on the start, I just knew you had a Hot Rod, but after "hot laps" I figured it out and was able to get ya on the start"! That just doesn't seem right! I don't know if any other real races are like that, but we don't do hotlap sessions with the heat lined up, before the race, just to break the track in, and in no perticular order. Now I know we have to online to make sure that the servers are good and our setups are in, but can't we do this in random or reverse rank mode? Seems it would put more of the guessing back in, to make better and more realistic racing! JMO!!!

well my boy 6! it's like this, u will never see me get the jump from front row in hot laps. then again, u dont see me starting front row that much either..lol. i know as far as needing a hot or at least 1 lap when i 1st go in server, i definately do. noticed my lap times are almost .10 slower 1st race. i'd say set 2 rank after hots tho...gr8 idea.

I like them rank personally...gets you used to the guys you are gonna be racing around. I know wheel likes them random, and thus, I hate Wheel.

ranked hotlaps also give u a chance to show what ur not gonna do also.but i do agree we do need hotlaps whether its random or rank either way just to settle lag and warp or like mcgee said "to get his boost built up"!

I know F1yer tricked me once at Riverside and his hot laps had a lot to do with it. I know we were both on the front row, and hot one I went like normal and he crossed-over and passed me. Hot two he did the same again...he'd let off just a lil to cross under me comin outta one and make the pass. So I'm like...ok I'll outsmart him in the A...well he outsmarted me AGAIN lmao...

I decided to lift at the start a lil so he couldn't duck in behind me. Well, he musta figured this and he floored it and blew by me on the outside and went on to win I do believe...you talk about frustrated/mad, I sure was!!

that is a great moment in my DTR2 memory....i damn near wrecked after i pulled it off because i was so excited it worked!

hotlaps before each session of racing whether its heats , bmains , amains are a necessary evil , they calm the server down , and prove whether your setup loaded or not

ranked hotlaps are nice because you can see what others are planning on doing , and/or try to set someone up for the start like shock mentioned

unranked is what i would prefer , and to take it a step further , have everyone spread out for hotlaps , let the first row take off , few seconds later 2nd row goes and so on

and if we wanted to take away a few hotlaps is be ok with that too , just set it to 1 hotlap , make sure the setup is in and then go racing

hot laps should be at start of the nights race and no more from that point on random rank 2 hots is in my opion plenty of laps to get right since vlr is running 47 wet thats not ganna be to much set up prob i rember when teams would run a hot seasion before a main that bs when i ran dtrs last 2 sesions i ran format of this hots all classes to begin then heats and mains random rank for hots is good

Jason i have been wanting to do this ever since i started playing the game, doing hot laps in random so u dont know what the real start is going to be like...its great that u brought this old topic out of the gutter, and i think im gonna have to look into this for vlr races.
