How do I paint a car on gimp and get it in game? I have tried and tried but everytime I do it, it comes out all black and weird looking...could someone help me? Is there a tutorial? I have done this stuff for years with Nr2003 but cant seem to get it with Dtr2.
Thanks

Corey,

Try making sure you're saving the file as 24-bit UNCOMPRESSED .tga file. If you've done it properly the file size will end up being 768kb. If it's not 768kb then you've done something wrong.

I'm not sure how to do so in Gimp. When you go to Save As or whatever just look for options related to that. Otherwise yeah I'm sure it would work if you saved it and put it into PSP7 and saved it as uncompressed but try again in Gimp and see if there are any options like that.

Also how do i set up the file to use in game? What do i name it etc.? Like I saw some are Legend Coupe 01 then theres a skin.str in it, and also a texture file. In those are the 256 and 512. Should i set mine up like this?
Thanks,
Corey

You can delete the 256texture.tga, keep the 512texture.tga. Save your skin over the 512texture.tga file. The skin.str file is a file you open in notepad to rename the skin and to change what chassis it goes on.

Well...I sorta got it to work...If i start with a template and paint it then pt it in the game it doesnt work. But if I edit a car that has already been painted it works...weird
Thanks,
Corey

Ok, so does anybody else know whats going on here? I did an Outlaw Camaro skin just as a TEST SKIN and sent it to squirrel because he said he could help. According to him if im understanding him correctly not all the chassis come out at 768kb-769kb. Mine came out at 1025kb. Im not sure what im doing wrong. I paint it in Gimp then I save it and open it up in PSP7 to UNCOMPRESS it and 24 bits and all that...
Can anybody else try to help?
Thanks,
Corey

the best and easiest way to save a skin is have a 512 texture u already know works and open it in psp7.
then copy the skin u made in gimp and paste it onto the working 512texture then merge/flatten the layers and just save it.dont try the save as or whatever.just save.then put it in the skin folder for ur skin and ur done.
Better eat them fuckin vitamins kiddies.

What resolution is the skin? It needs to be 512x512 to work. If it's more than that it won't. But the size ALWAYS should be 768kb. The only way it's not is if you're saving as a 256x256 skin for like a sprint chassis. In that case it would be 193kb...Either way it should NEVER be 1025kb
