DW_Fergie Makes Final Cut in DTR2 Modified World 100
Engine Blows on Lap One in Turn Three
Ed Peters, WOW_97X, Is Crowned 2004 DTR2 Modified World 100 Champion

One of the biggest shows ever on Dirt, the DTR2 Modified World 100, attracted a star studded field of competitors...a regular who's who of DTR2 Modified racing. Teams and Leagues representing WOW, XLO, EVR, NSDRA, SBS, BBR, DRT, MOFO, MRT, BNM and IGGR & IDRS, to name just a few, showcased their talents in this 'best of the best' showdown. 126 racers submiited entries to the prestigous event with 98 pilots attempting to qualify. Ozmo_Godsey made a super run to set quick time, earning the top spot and all the attention with a lightning 12.59 run. But when the night was over and the dirt slinging stopped, it was a newcomer, a relative unknown, WOW_97X, who stole the show, the fame and the glory.

The top 64 racers made the show, with the field divide into 8 heats of 8 racers each. With lineups set by qualifying, fast to the front, the racing got underway. Each group of 8 racers, ran (2) 12 lap Qualifiers to determine who would advance to the 2nd round. MOFO_Gatler, DRT_Beef, MOFO_Domn8tr, HiSide, EVR_RUSH, StentS, WOW_97x and EVR_BoNg each came out on top of their heats...leading 32 racers into the 2nd round.

The Eliminator Round, matched the top 4 qualifiers from each of the heats in head to head race off action. Only 4 racers would advance to the 3rd round from each of the (4) 15 lap Eliminators. These hotly contested shootouts exhibited some of the best racing of the evening with MOFO_Gatler, MOFO_Domn8tr, EVR_RUSH and DRT_Beef taking wins and showing the fast way to the 16 racers that advanced to Round 3. The competition was so intense that some of the events fastest qualifiers were elimnated. Racers that had their night end early included XLO_King (3rd in qualifying), XLO_BigDaddy, DRT_DW16, WOW_Sky98 & XLO_Ran. And that was just some of the big names that went home empty.

The tension mounted as the top 16 racers lined up for the two 25 lap Semi Mains. Lineups were set according to finish in previous races with every racer knowing that the top 5 finishers in each race would advance to the DTR2 World 100, the first ever on-line DTR2 Modified World Championship.

In the first Semi Main, a relative unknown, Ed Peters driving the WOW_97X express, took the lead early and held off challenges of Reggie and StentS to score the big win. MOFO_Domn8tr and EVR_Z also made the World 100 while two EVR teammates JSY and RUSH, along with fast qualifier Ozmo_Godsey saw their hopes end.

The 2nd Semi saw 2nd Quick time Qualifier, DRT_Beef move on, with XLO_AP, IGGR_Abit, newcomer WOW_Tek and fergie all make the big dance. MOFO_Gatler, who had won every race he had entered up to this point saw his night end suspended from the 'happy hooker'. EVR_BoNg and hotshoe HiSide also found themselves on the outside looking in as the 10 fastest DTR2 Modifieds in the world took to the track for the Championship.

As the 100 Lap Feature got underway, WOW_97x jumped off to an early lead. At the filed entered turn 3 the power plant under the hood of the fergie #30 Mod exploded, leaving the disappointed driver to ride it out in the trailer. With 97X stretching out his lead, MOFO_Domn8tr tangled with the wall ending his chance at the crown. On lap 3 Reggie tangled with DTR_Beef and Beef took an upside tumble down the back shute. Reggie was able to continue but only for 2 more laps before he too, retired from the event, leaving 6 racers to run the final 95 laps for crown of World Champion. As the race wore on, WOW_97x settled into a groove and nursed the sizable lead he had built. With laps ticking off and no challenge in sight, WOW_97x began to lose concentration....and his big lead. With about 20 to go, StentS began to close and WOW_97X began to watch his rearview mirror. With StentS clearly moving in, WOW_97X, had to bear down or back down. Any mistake and the race was lost. The two racers raced nose to tail, with 97X holding StentS off in every turn. As the white waved, it was still WOW_97x with Stents glued to his ass, waiting for just one mistake. Off of turn four StentS made one last run...dashing low toward the stripe as WOW_97X took the high line. As the Checkers waved WOW_97X edged StentS by half a car length for the biggest win, and biggest upset of his career. Stents was denied his goal by just .06 of a second after the long 100 lap run. EVR-Z drove his ZRF Motorsports #7 to a 3rd place finish, while XLO_APAgent represented the rocket fast Team XLO with a nice 4th place run. Rounding out the top 5 was IGGR_Abit. The top 5 all finished on the same lap, while 6th place finisher, WOW_Tek was just one lap back.

Congratulations to a new topdog, in DTR2 circles. He's not an unknown anymore! 100 Racers! 100 Laps! One Champion!

DTR2 Modified World 100 King, Ed Peters, WOW_97X. The 2004 DTR2 Modified World Champion.

They used to go by chat. That was probably the biggest dtr2 race there has been though. The car counts from when I was around I think were actually lower than now

But then again there were so many leagues that I guess there coulda been 4 or 5 going at a time

back then we all had to logon t what ever website was the host league/team for the event and login into a java type chat window hosted on the website it self

huge attendance shows were not the norm , while attendance back then was similar to what youd see this season at vlr , but like shock said - there was always races on top of each other , there could be as many as 5 races at the same time , even some using the same chassis , just depended on who you were friends with and where you wanted to run

i remember those skins you posted a link to shck , woodn was pretty dern good
i always went to 5rf tho for my skins , til i learned how to paint back then

Wish i had been around then...126 entries is insane!!!I think the right # won the thing though!
So we finish 18 and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, 'Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.' And he says, 'Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I got that goin' for me, which is nice

I really wish I had been around back then instead of beating the computer cars on easy thinking I was the best ever.....Think of how much better I'd be now if I was racing back then....I'd know what the heck Karl is talking about when he talks about how much better the game used to be!

well , its subjective
the game was great back then for different reasns than why it is great right now
back then there was always somewhere to race , not that there isnt right now - but if yoou missed the start of one back then , you could go to another and another til you found one - where now if youre late your lucky if you can tag a CMain

nw i think the game is great because of the advancements that have been made with tracks and chassis development

Used the same thing Shock did and I'm looking at BHMotorsports.......apparently there was a DTR3 in the works.....The game creators had asked for some opinions and these guys made a huge wishlist.
