HIGHLAND, ILL (September 28, 2010) – The 1st annual Kathy Blanchard 100 Presented by VLR will be held at Highland Speedway in Highland, IL this Saturday, October 3rd. This 100 event promises to become a crown jewel event at the Highland Speedway and in the VLR Gen 3 series.

This week’s race takes place a quarter ways through the season, and will play a big part in determining what drivers are for real this season, and which competitors could be in for a rough year. BLS_Flyer of Hildebran, NC, is the most recent winner of a 100-lap race at VLR from this past Sunday at Brownstown and should be back in action this weekend to try and pull off another impressive 100 lap win.

Activities will get underway on Sunday night with open practicing and qualifying directly following. After qualifying fans will get to watch a full night of heat races, B-mains, and the affair will conclude with a 100 lap memorial race!

Everyone needs to come out and enjoy the huge night of racing. It will be a points race for the driver's who run the full VLR tour, keep that in mind. Here’s a sample of what everyone can anticipate from each driver this week…of course, there are always surprises and anything can happen on this brand new ¼ mile track.

WFO_Ice- Always has a strong car, But has been a little off as of late, even failing to reach the A main last week at VLR, something that has rarely happened in his career in any series. But a cold Ice is just as dangerous as anyone. Can he turn up the heat for 100 laps at Highland? His season could depend on it.

BLS_Flyer- Won last week’s 100 lapper at Brownstown Speedway in the USRA_Bill 100! F1yer has turned it up as of late, and is running strong. He seems to run well in these long, grueling races and is probably the favorite heading into Sunday night, as he looks to break out of a tie and take over the points lead from VLR_18.

VLR_Mcgee- A fan favorite and possibly the most consistent racer in the business, look for him to put on a hell of a show as he tries to better his third place run from last week’s 100 lap race at Brownstown. He currently sits fifth in the points after two races.

VLR_Shock- Has all the momentum in the VLR series after his strong runs at the end of last season. Can he be patient enough to win? Don't be "Shocked" if he runs away with the 100 lap event Sunday night. Shock will unquestionably be hungry after settling for fourth last Sunday at Brownstown despite running in the lead for much of the last half of the race.

VLR_18- Even with 36 career wins at VLR this 100 lap race will be special for “the Wheelman.” Look for the 18 machine to be in action and up front as always. He is currently in a tie with BLS_F1yer for the points lead, but history shows that VLR_18 regularly starts clicking around this time, and he will try to distance himself from the competition starting this week at Highland.

BLS_Blaze- Blaze is still searching for a major win in DTR2, and this could be the race for him to easily label himself as one of the top drivers on the game. Look for him to be driving the wheels off of his 12 car, and to be running up front at the end. Blaze always has himself in contention to win and will be gunning hard for the win after seeing the VLR Crates race last Friday at Brownstown slip away from him in the final laps.

WFO_Rainman- Sources have said that the Rainman is expected to have his ride here this weekend. Rain is bad fast and always very hard to beat no matter what track he’s at. However, he will have added incentive this week since the race will be held at one of his home-state tracks, and he should have numerous fans on hand to cheer on his x59 machine.

4H- 4h has been under the radar as of late due to some team changes and car issues. However, he is always a threat to win when he's on top of his game. Look for him to be ALL IN this weekend to turn things around.  4h will look to top his career best finish of 3rd at VLR with a win at this Sundays race.

WFO V56- Announced he was running the full tour but was missing this past weekend. WFO_V56 is always a very consistent competitor and he is expected to be back this weekend in full force to put on a great show for the fans and other drivers.

Doit 43- One of the Doit team’s only driver to travel much, Doit 43 is coming along quick. A strong finish would really help the confidence of the Kentucky driver. He has yet to make an A Main at VLR in six starts dating back to last season, but he has shown improvement every week and just missed out on last weekend’s A Main by one spot. If he makes the show he can be dangerous as a wildcard.

BLS_Jason- Jsn tours a lot and runs a lot of races, but hasn’t lived up to the hype the first two races at VLR. After recording a DNF in the opener at Attica and taking home 24th place, he came back at Brownstown and had another DNF. A strong finish or win would boost the Kokomo, In. driver's confidence and have him soaring up the point standings. Look for him to be strong this weekend and get his season headed in the right direction.

BLS_Deadbolt- Similar to Jason, Deadbolt is always on the road and running different series. The confidence that it would give him to make the feature in the Kathy Blanchard 100 could provide him with the jump-start he needs for the rest of the season.

VLR AMP- The sentimental favorite, the race is dedicated to his late mother who passed away in early September. AMP will be determined to run well, and this night will be special to him no matter where he finishes. Don't be shocked to see him with a strong run this weekend. The Canadian rookie is running sixth in points and has impressed a lot of people. It’s almost as if his mother is by his side for this season.

BLS_Zombie- Zombie is surprisingly 8th in point’s in this young season. He stated his goal before the season was to finish in the top 10 in points, and he looks to be well on his way if the first two races are any indication. Look for him to improve each and every week as he tries to pick up his first career win this week.

Other possible drivers in attendance that could be threats to upset the balance and makes things interesting at VLR are...

BOB- Bob won his heat last week due to VLR_KP having to leave, and started on the outside pole for the USRA_Bill 100. It was his first start in a VLR A Main in his eleventh attempt, and he done so in a big way. Will the momentum carry over to Highland?

IFRT_14- IFRT_14 is one of the older guys who tour a lot and compete in many different series. He recently wrapped up a championship at RPM and is running strong of late. Look for him to make it to Highland and perhaps make his second career A Main at VLR.

BLS_33- BLS_Stephen33 always has fun with races. Look for him to be fast and positive as always. He is a well liked driver in the VLR series and dtr2 as a whole. Stephen was expected to run full time, but currently doesn’t have the support to do so. Still, he could be a surprise driver to show up this week and make some noise.

Team Doit- Doit 9, Doit 2 and Doit 42 were all in attendance last week and could possibly be back this week for the 100 lap race. They got a teammate in the top ten in points so expect these guys to work well together, and maybe even get a win.

VLR_Razz- VLR_raZz has been back turning laps after a long period off from dtr2. He is slowly getting adjusted back to the racing. If razz is able to make the A Main, look for him to move towards the front. RaZz seems to perform better as the races wear on, and 100 laps would give him plenty of time to get acclimated to this narrow track.

BLS_34- Spridal as been improving each race. No shock at all if he makes the A and runs great. Due to his work schedule it is unlikely he will be able to show up this week, though.

BLS_42- This is another driver in the huge BLS stable who should be in attendance and run well. BLS_42 will try to show that he's ready to take a big step the in dtr2 racing and make the feature at VLR and contend for a win. You can’t count this guy out, he is second in the battle for rookie of the year, currently.

Other drivers who might make the event this week at Highland that are not committed or ran much at VLR as of late is : JW, BLS_Dustin, BLS_DK, A2D, Doit 10, Doit 3, Doit 5, BLS_Superman, BLS_OK, Doit 18, WFO_SideBite, TXR_Tj, jus8x, DS5, Team ERL, BLS_Zro, WFO_Ranger.

With all that said, the point's are very tight with the two dominant drivers BLS_Flyer and VLR_18 tied for first place with 118 point each. Another odd thing is that 3rd place in the points is tied with Tennessee driver VLR_Shock and Michigan native BLS_BLZ each sitting at 108 points. All of this could change quickly if any of these drivers have an off night. We’d like to see everyone show up this week to make things interesting and exciting for the fans.

VLR_AMP leads BLS 42 at the moment in the 2010 AMSOIL "Rookie of the Year" point standings.

This is the tracks first major dtr2 race and not many people have laps on the tight 1/4 mile semi-banked track. It should make for a really even race, and the points are so close this could be a big turning point for someone, so come out and try your luck. Please leave any comments or questions below.

The VLR Crates are also in action this week and will run at Highland on Friday, October 1st, with the top ten in the point standings shaping up like this.

1. BLS_Flyer  116 points
2. VLR_Shock -2
3. VLR_ McGee  -4
4. VLR_AMP  -20
5. BLS_Zombie -24
6. VLR _18  -26
7. BLSJsn!  -26
8. BLS_42 -32
9. BLS_34  -34
10. BLS_DeadBolt -36

All other drivers are welcome to come out and run and get some laps on the track before the 100 lap event on Sunday night in the Gen 3’s. For more info on crates check into crates.teamvlr.com, and for the Gen 3’s, just go to www.teamvlr.com. Cya at the races!
