AMARILLO, TX (May 13, 2012) – VLR_JJ of Harold, Florida, continued his mastery of Rodeo Raceway Sunday in the final race of the VLR season, by dominating the 65 lap Rodeo Finale. Three of JJ's five career VLR wins have came in the final race of the season at Rodeo.

A champion was also crowned on the warm spring evening in Texas, as Crossville, Tennessee's VLR_Shock won his second career VLR championship while ending BLS_18's streak of six championships in a row at VLR.

The Florida Flash VLR_JJ powered away from his outside starting position and never looked back after zooming out to an eight car-length lead over the field by lap six, when teammates VLR_Woods and pole-sitter VLR_Shock made contact while battling for second.

The win was JJ's second of the season in just three attempts, with his first victory coming at Volusia Speedway Park in his home state. It was JJ's first race at Rodeo as a VLR member, and the always fast driver proved that a few new letters in front of his name wouldn't slow him down.

"I was just on it tonight," said JJ, who has averaged one win in three starts in his career at VLR. "I wanted to make a big statement tonight since this was the last race.

"I think I did that."

BLS_18 of Brookfield, Wisconsin, settled for second place after the field was frozen for a wreck in turn four on the last lap. The 8-time VLR champion crossed the line a whopping 4.89 seconds behind JJ to finish second. VLR_Woods of Biloxi, Mississippi, turned in his best career finish with a third. Woods battled with BLS_18 for much of the race and came up inches short at the line in his bid for a second place finish.

Points champion VLR_Shock brought home a fourth place finish after an eventful evening that saw him fall off from his pole starting position. The Tennessee driver was locked in an intense battle for second throughout the entire race but settled for a close fourth at the finish. VLR_JW of West Point, Mississippi crossed the line fifth, just a couple of car lengths behind the epic battle for second.

JJ's victory capped off a dominating performance that saw him jump out to the lead from the outside of the front row and check out ahead of the field. The three-time Rodeo Finale winner used a spirited four-car battle for second to distance himself from the rest of the pack.

The master of Rodeo, JJ, has won a series leading three season finale races at Rodeo and has never lost a VLR series race at the 5/8 mile D-Shaped oval in Amarillo, Texas.

"I love coming to this track and racing here," said JJ. "I just wanted to go out there and dominate and lead every lap.

"When I saw how big my lead was at the end my goal was to win by five seconds. I came up a little short of that goal but we still got the win and the momentum for next season."

BLS_18's consistent race paid off with a strong second place finish that saw the Wisconsin native constantly entrenched in a dramatic battle for position with VLR_Shock and VLR_Woods for much of the race.

"It was an awesome race overall and I worked hard to try to get second," said 18, who was not leading leading the point standings after the season finale for the first time since February 2009. "I had a good race trying to get by Shock and then at the end Woods and I had a good battle. Congrats to Shock on the championship.'"

Another driver on top of his game at the Rodeo is one-half of the Mississippi Mafia, VLR_Woods. The pilot of the #14 Bloomquist Chassis powered his ride to a third place finish, and was inches away from getting a second place result.

"I knew we had a fast car but I got into Shock at the beginning and that kind of slowed us all up," said Woods, who's never finished below sixth at Rodeo in a VLR event. "I would have like to got second there but I'll take a third in my first Rodeo race on Team VLR."

Points Champion VLR_Shock finished fourth, but was satisfied with his result, and even moreso since the coveted VLR championship was his for the first time since February 14, 2009.

"I was just happy to get the championship finally," said an elated Shock after the race. "Wheel has just seemed impossible to beat the last three years and this season I had my best run ever and if I couldn't do it now I'm not sure I'd ever get another one here.

"We had a good car as it showed by getting the pole, but come race time I was way to inconsistent. The race for second was awesome though and I want to say congrats to JJ on another win in the finale."

JFR*4H of Hindman, Kentucky made an impressive return to dirt racing with a silent six place finish after starting 9th. Oswego, New York's IFRT_RB crossed the line 7th, with Fasteddie26w earning a strong eighth place finish. WFO_45 was ninth, and Independence, Kansas' JFR_17 rounded out the finishers in tenth.

Twenty-nine cars were signed in for the event, which may be VLR's final visit to the aging facility for a sanctioned points race.

VLR_Shock was fastest in the TeamVLR.com Servers time trials, turning a lightning fast lap of 14.929 seconds to earn his fourth pole of the season.

Heat winners were BLS_18, VLR_JJ, VLR_Woods, and VLR_JW. The C Mains were taken by IFRT_14 and VLR_McGee, while JFR_4h took home the B Main victory.

The VLR series directors would like to thank each and every driver for coming out and competing all season long in what was by far our best season of racing yet.

Car counts were higher than ever before and the multiple close finishes throughout the season had the fans on their feet all season long. We hope to see everyone back next season for more action-filled racing action!
