VOLUSIA, FL (January 6, 2011)- The National Late Model Series comes to Deleon Springs, Florida.  One by one the haulers roll in.  Its mid 60 degree weather in the mornings but quickly warms to mid 80’s.  A perfect day for the opening event to the 2011 season.  As the day moves on drivers line up to draw their pill.  The starting spot all depends on luck.  The finishing order requires skill and maybe a little luck as well.  There was a decent turnout.  18 cars entered the event and 8 went home early.

Heat races were a little rough and the restarts were used up in heat one right away.  Eventually the pack got under way and the race was on.  Top 2 to the A-Main and the rest to the B-Main.

VLR_Shock wins heat 1 with Wildman coming in second followed by IFRT_14, Simon, Squirrel, and ERL_Losi.

BLS_Jsn takes the win in heat 2 with VLR_Amp coming in second followed by VLR_McGee, Doit 42, ERL_Mindstorm, and XCR B58.

BLS_Deadbolt wins heat 3 with BLS_34 coming in second followed by ERL_BLKJAK, ERL_Goat, WFO_B1a23, and ERL_Turbo who was unable to run the heat due to equipment failure (Ping).

The BZB Embroidery Dash was won by VLR_Shock followed by BLS_Jsn, BLS_34, VLR_Amp, Wildman, and BLS_Deadbolt.

B-Mains 1 and 2 line up knowing that only 2 drivers get a chance to stay for the feature.  The action got a little rough.

VLR_18 wins B-Main 1 with Doit 42 coming in second for the final transfer position.  3rd was ERL_Mindstorm followed by IFRT_14, and ERL_BLKJAK.

VLR_McGee wins B-Main 2 with ERL_Goat finishing 2nd for the finial transfer position.  3rd was ERL_Turbo followed by Simon, and XCR B58.

The A-Main lines up with top 5 inverted.  The race starts and Wildman takes the lead and holds it for several laps.  VLR_Shock running second catches Wildman and begins to challenge for the lead.  They swap positions several times.  VLR_18 joins to make it a three-way battle for the 1st position.

VLR_Shock runs into turn 3 a little low and slides out mid track.  A tap from Wildman turns VLR_Shock.  Trying to avoid the contact Wildman slows and contact is made with the wall.

Wildman and VLR_Shock emerge mid pack and fight to regain positions as VLR_18 charges ahead with the lead and would be virtually unchallenged for the win.  The hard racing was not only up front but through out the pack.

VLR_18 takes the checkered flag with BLS_34 coming in second.  VLR_Amp finishes 3rd followed by BLS_Jsn, Do!t 42, VLR_McGee, ERL_Goat, BLS_Deadbolt, and Wildman with a DNF.

The racing was tough and as you can see looking at the drivers listed above, this race could have been won by any one of them.

A big thanks to all that came out to race with us.  Hope to see you all next week when the National Late Model Series shows up at Baton Rouge Speedway.
